A Georgia inmate is asking to be executed by a firing squad because he says lethal injection would be too painful for him.
Convicted murderer J.W. Ledford Jr. takes a pain medication, gabapentin, that changed his brain chemistry so much the lethal injection drug pentobarbital might not make him unconscious and would cause him “to suffer an excruciating death,” according to documents filed by his lawyer in US District Court.
“Mr. Ledford proposes that the firing squad is a readily implemented and more reliable alternative method of execution that would eliminate the risks posed to him by lethal injection,” his lawyers said in court papers filed Thursday.
The Georgia attorney general’s office replied Friday there was no proof a firing squad would be less painful and contended there was “no substantial risk” he would suffer severe pain in a Georgia execution by lethal injection.

I would say give the inmates a chance to donate their organs as one last act of penitence and use Nitrogen asphyxiation. It doesn’t poison the organs like everything else.

Not only that, but he dragged the Doctor's body to another part of his property, and covered it up. Then he went to the Doctor's house with a knife and demanded money from the wife. He took money and four guns from the home, tied up Johnston's wife and left in the Doctor's truck. And this a-hole wants special treatment?
The animal just relaxes and goes to sleep. No seizures, no struggling, they just go to sleep ... and then die.
Why would it not be the same for humans. Just like going under anesthesia, only you don't wake up.

Once pain reaches a certain level, only narcotics provide any meaningful relief.
I bet you’re taking other drugs as well for pain. Gabapentin is super super effective for me. But I don’t take other painkillers.

I no longer take gabapentin. It provided no effective relief, and there is a withdrawal syndrome.

It is with the way it is being done. This is just someone trying to throw something in to see if it sticks to get out or cut the sentence to life without.
And you can be sure, if it was a problem with pain, the do-gooders would have already challenged the system clear up to the supreme court.

I just don’t understand why “lethal injection” has to be such a problem. You go in for a colonoscopy and the anesthesiologist, turns the little valve and you count backwards from 10 to about 8, then you wake up and it is over. Heck, they could cut your head off and you wouldn’t know it. Why don’t they just do this, then let the drip keep going. Probably would be a very easy way to die. I think this “cocktail” BS is just that, BS.

His logic is good, and truthfully, lethal injection is less for a reliable means of execution than it is more aesthetically pleasing to witnesses, which is a stupid rationale.
If they are worried about blood if he is shot, he could be given an absorbent vest to wear.
Were I in his shoes, I would petition for the firing squad as well.

He should be executed with the same method that he used to kill his victim(s)
