Having an issue Cisco Networking Academy packet tracer... please help.

Posted on 02/19/2017 5:52:50 PM PST by everlast

I am taking a computer course and we are learning networking using the Cisco packet tracer labs. If anyone is familiar with this program, I would love to talk to you. No matter what I do it will not allow me to complete any of the sections that use the command prompt. I have updated Java, allowed the program full permissions on my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times on different machines - I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

It’s been a while since I did anything with it, as it’s too different from “real” IOS devices if you need to something complicated. But it’s a terrific learning tool.

Can you PM me a bit more about what’s happening when you try to save a project?

As I said, it’s been a couple of years for me, and I began using GNS3, since it uses real IOS, simulating the Cisco hardware (the downside is it can’t emulate the Cisco switches, since the switch code is in ASIC, as opposed to the IOS.)

But I’ll try to help.

Mark

Try running the command prompt as administrator. On Windows it’s in accessories right click then run as administrator.

A serious answer:

I had a similar issue. Try downgrading your Java version. Try 8u102. You can download older version of Java Here (Java Archive) Note that you need to create a free Oracle account to download the archived Java versions.

Hope this helps!
