I am half German and my surname is German. I have always been glad that my great-grandparents, now resting in a small cemetery surrounded by a Illinois cornfield, had the sense and desire to leave Germany behind.

I am half German and my surname is German.Same for me. In my case it is grandparents who came over, now resting in a huge cemetery surrounded by Queens and Brooklyn. Like you, I'm very glad they "got on the boat!"
