Trumps attacks on the mainstream media were a cornerstone of his campaign and last week he called BuzzFeed a failing pile of garbage, but forcing reporters to undergo random drug tests would provoke a media meltdown.

Why not? The press is not entitled by right to have close personal access to the president, it’s a privilege. I’m sure and sincerely hope that the press attending conferences have thorough background checks etc (and these should be stepped up now in view of their overtly hostile attitude), so a drug test is simply one more qualification (also screen for anti-depressants, opioids, benzos in addition to illegal drugs).
I wouldn’t put anything past the press at this point, including taking out the chief executive.

I was in favor of drug testing when I worked for the government. I figured it would have gotten me a few promotions and would have obviated the need for RIFs.
