Few celebs have been more rabidly anti-Trump than Ken Burns of PBS documentary fame. If you had seen his Stanford commencement speech which was in reality an anti-Trump speech earlier this year, you would know what I mean. The way he sounded is that it would mark the end of the Republic if Trump were elected.
Therefore right after the election I kept looking for what I thought would be the inevitable Ken Burns anti-Trump rant. It did not come. It is as if Ken Burns was so shaken up by the election result that he was paralyzed and unable to communicate for now.
So when will we finally hear from Burns? One guess is that he is waiting for a full month to recuperate which means we might finally hear from him this Thursday or Friday. I hope so because I am sure his rant will be quite epic. For extra effect, I am hoping that he gets a crewcut and vows to keep it that way until Trump is no longer President.
I’m ready to post “Shut up and make documentaries”.
It’s funny how we can admire someone’s creative work yet despise their politics. I just choose to separate the two even if the (and no one else) does.
This is the putz who did the Civil War series, right?
Maybe he was too busy getting his patented bowl cut.
Maybe he walked off into the New Hampshire woods and did himself in.
It’s funny, but I’ve been calling Burns the “Donald Trump of PBS” for decades.
Never heard of Ken Burns. I did a search and I’ll be darned if he doesn’t look like an older Dylan Roof.
I thought he died of gerbal toxemia.
Life is Good!
What a faggoty little snowflake Burns seems.
I hope he stays silent. I LOVED The Civil War, Baseball and The Brooklyn Bridge. To paraphrase a saying, “Ken, shut up and make documentaries”.
He's a genuinely great documentary maker. The Civil War and Baseball are better than 98% of Hollywood movies.
Re #2:
Ditto what you said.
Let me guess - - Ken's great ‘insights’ are we're all racists, xenophobes, or anti-gay... we've committed the crime of 'not being liberals'... What a jerk.
Burns did a good job with the Old Negro Space Program. Check it out on youtube.
:)
Don’t let one World Series in 108 years go to you’re head!
And his opinion means something to me because?
When Ken Burns’ series on the Civil War first aired, I watched every minute of it. Something happened in the episode about Gettysburg that totally altered my opinion of him and made me realize how out-of-touch with the real America he really is.
As you know, the background music was comprised of original and traditional music that was either from the period or was in the style of it. A few original compositions were written just for the series, but most of the themes were recognizable.
During the screenshot of the Dead at Gettysburg, and the Ceremony following in which we have Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the background music was a Civil War Era “quickstep” that remained popular for many years called “Mockingbird”. The tune would have been appropriate if it had not been employed, less than a century later, as one of the theme songs for THE THREE STOOGES.
