I’m not sure what coincidence you have in mind. If witches were merely old crones living alone, that’s to say bereft of magical powers, they may have surrounded themselves with cats for no better reason than modern middle-age women surround themselves with cats. So the coincidence isn’t so much a surprise as a syndrome. Old cougars love cats and always have.

There certainly seems a connection between women and cats. I’ve always been a cat owner. I mostly enjoy them for their beauty and mystery. But generally, they’re pains in the asses!
