Trump and Clinton debated each other for the first time last night. Heres how I score the night.
Clinton won on points. She had more command of the details and the cleaner answers. Trump did a lot of interrupting and he was defensive. If this were a college debate competition, Clinton would be declared the winner. I call that victory on the 2D chess board. But voters dont care about facts and debating style. They care about how they feel. So lets talk about that.
For starters, Trump and Clinton both seemed presidential enough. That mattered more for Trump. We havent seen him off the teleprompter lately. So Trump passed that test by being sufficiently serious.
Clinton looked (to my eyes) as if she was drugged, tired, sick, or generally unhealthy, even though she was mentally alert and spoke well. But her eyes were telling a different story. She had the look of someone whose doctors had engineered 90 minutes of alertness for her just for the event. If she continues with a light campaign schedule, you should assume my observation is valid, and she wasnt at 100%.
Some will say Clinton outperformed expectations because she didnt cough, collapse, or die right on stage. That would be true if she also looked healthy in general, and her campaign schedule from here on out is full. Well know more this week, based on her schedule.
Clintons smile seemed forced, artificial, and frankly creepy. Im already hearing on Twitter that mentioning a womans smile is sexist. I understand the point. But when someone goes full Joker-face and tests the uncanny valley hypothesis at the same time, thats a bit different from telling a woman to smile more. My neighbor Kristina hypothesized that Botox was making her smile look unnatural. Science tells us that when a persons mouth smiles, but their eyes dont match the smile, they look disingenuous if not creepy. Botox on your crows feet lines around your eyes can give that effect. But whatever the reason, something looked off to me.
To be fair, Trumps physical appearance wont win him any votes either. But his makeup looked better than I have seen it (no orange), his haircut was as good as it gets for him, and he was otherwise his normal self that some voters hate and some like.
But the most interesting question has to do with what problem both of them were trying to solve with the debate. Clinton tried to look healthy, and as I mentioned, I dont think she completely succeeded. But Trump needed to solve exactly one problem: Look less scary. Trump needed to counter Clintons successful branding of him as having a bad temperament to the point of being dangerous to the country. Trump accomplished exactly that by losing the debate.
Trump was defensive, and debated poorly at points, but he did not look crazy. And pundits noticed that he intentionally avoided using his strongest attacks regarding Bill Clintons scandals. In other words, he showed control. He stayed in the presidential zone under pressure. And in so doing, he solved for his only remaining problem. He looked safer.
By tomorrow, no one will remember what either of them said during the debate. But we will remember how they made us feel.
Clinton won the debate last night. And while she was doing it, Trump won the election. He had one thing to accomplish being less scary and he did it.
I agree completely and am glad others seenit that way.
When you watch it with less emotion, you see what he is seeing.
Hillary should have been taking issues away from Trump that he can use against her.
Instead she tossed marginal stuff that affects only tiny voting blocs that were already SUPPOSEDLY already in her corner.
So the day after Trump still has all of this stuff to use in ads, speeches, and rallies.
All of Hillary’s best from the left slams are already used up.
Is she going to harp on Obama’s BC or Trump’s sad loaning him money at another debate? Not likely, but now terrorism, immigration, her emails, Bill’s past, Hillary’s past, and the Foundation are still looming.
This was her one best shot, and it wasn’t effective and it was too early.
Oops.
sad = dad
“I remember Romney wiping the floor with a totally unprepared OBAMA four years ago. Obama still won the election.”
I believe the fix was in for Obama. Romney cleaned his clock in the first debate, and then it was like he didn’t even show up to the other two. Someone got to him. He backed down. I don’t see Trump backing down.
Both sides are reacting the same way. They are claiming their guy won, but inside are disappointed that they couldn’t get under the skin enough to cause a mini meltdown or have a gotcha moment. Freepers are especially disappointed because we were hoping illary would have an event on stage to show we were right about her health.
It was actually a pretty boring debate compared to what we were hoping for. They were so focused on not appearing out of control or mean. Turn the cameras off and I have a feeling they could both get pretty nasty at each other.
I think Trump needs to address the moderators at the next debate and ask if there are going to be any real questions or more fluff to protect illary. If no questions on immigration, email, clinton foundation, benghazi, etc... he should just tell them to call him when they are ready to have a real discussion about issues.
Last night, Hillary was the bitter, mean old woman, either in the office or the neighborhood that we’ve all done our best to avoid. We don’t need one of THOSE nasty old things running America—and lecturing us on how wrong/bad/stupid we all are, every time we turn around...
BINGO
Haughty and smug, which I doubt will play well with the common people. And her eyes weren’t tracking properly last night, on several occasions. She is as creepy as they come and I hope the voters will ignore the complete Lefty bias from Holt. Big Media is in that hole and just keeps digging. Holt won’t be ‘Lauerized’ and that will make Holt happy. But Big Media slipped in credibility again last night. How much more space do they have before they are at 0% credibility.
Here is Hillary’s schedule. While she has some rally’s in the next few days, in October she has things scheduled with a lot of time between events:

Have you seen the online polls? It’s not just that Trump has won almost all of them, it’s the numbers. And it’s the *liberal* outlets, too.
600,000 - 900,000 - over a million voters in TIME.
He won the Slate poll! Freaking SLATE!
This morning Varney had a woman on who monitored the debate with the typical R/D/I audience and the Independents mirrored the R’s all night long.
Trump has won the middle ground.
He didn’t have to ‘win’ the debate. He had to hold his ground and remain in control. He accomplished what he needed to.
This is fantastic.
And watch for how many public appearances she will have over the next month. If she has few public appearances and looks like she got stimulants again for the second debate, then the entire health issue percolates to the front pages again to her detriment.
110% right on
Also, Trump needs to more clearly inject the obvious economic benefit in backing the Police--as Hilary (despite her glib straddling of the related issues) obviously does not--in Black neighborhoods, as a boon to increased economic activity & credit-worthiness, etc. This would only require a strong sentence or two, and would plant a very useful awareness helpful to both a neighborhood & Police/Community relations.
What’s with the eyes?
1. She’s blinking nearly every second.
2. Some blinks she holds for a pause.
3. She is rarely looking directly at the camera.
The most probable reason she could stay mentally focused even though she looked ill and tired is the use of modafinil/Provigil/Nuvigil. It is widely used for those with any Parkinson illness. Adderall is also used.
Yeah, she looked fake. There is no passion from her, only a quest for power. It's pretty obvious that she doesn't care anywhere near about others as much as she cares about herself.
With Trump, you can sense how much he wants to help people.
