Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I don’t know how happy I am. I just got back from Walmart, and I did things backwards, so I won’t know until tomorrow how the rest of this payday will pan out. I always hate myself in the morning when I buy groceries first.
I’m still trying to decide whether I’ll go pick up the prescription for pain pills or not. I hate that drive, but I need the stuff in order to function.
Not shaping up to be a good month.
</pity party
As my theory involved chaos it certainly had to do with cats.
Hah!
I went to Walmart, too. I found some markdown pork. I will make a pork-and-pineapple dish for supper. “Oh, that,” said Vlad, who was with me. “I don’t like that very much.” “Fine,” I said, “don’t eat any.”
Then I went for my hour walk with James - nice day for it - and then I boxed up the book from the car show to send to Anoreth and some nice birds-and-flowers napkins for my mother. They were on clearance at the Botanical Garden a while back, and I bought about ten packages. Mom can share them with her friends.
That sounds like a great thing to do! I didn’t even look at meat because I didn’t have the SNAP balance, yet. But what kind of meat can you get for $16? ;o] Vlad doesn’t like pork and pineapple? Strange boy.
I bought some pineapple yesterday so I can make pineapple cookies, but I need to get some brown sugar for them. I haven’t made them in years, but they sure are good. Frosted, dontchaknow? :o])
The sun is shining again today, and I have no idea how long that’s going to last. The crystals in the storm glass have been there in greater or lesser amounts for the last month. They are very pretty to look at, though!
For some reason, my adjustable chair sinks on its own, and I have to adjust it to make it higher about every three days. Weird.
Come visit me in Chinatown. I can probably get you a month’s supply of meat for $16.
Just don’t ask that “what kind of meat?” question. They will suddenly no speakee englee.
So, I nabbed a redundant post number and nobody noticed.
I guess I need a new hobby.
I was washing dishes. A Bill-cooking-project produces a lot of dishes.
Some people up the street from me own Chinese restaurants. They raise large quantities of doves in their back yard as “pets.” When they first moved here, they started raising chickens, but you’re not allowed to have livestock in our subdivision.
Well, you could look at it this way, ArGee: If more people were inclined to nab the redundant numbers or the sequential numbers, you wouldn’t get quite so many. ;o]
(I’m sure looking forward to summer...)
I’m looking forward to ... don’t know what. Maybe a trip to my Mom’s. I could really use an opportunity to sleep without constant turmoil.
I, for one, think you should go visit your mom! I think it will do wonders for you. If I could, I’d even pay for your ticket!
I’m looking forward to the end of the world and the New Heaven and New Earth, but not enough to try to bring it about myself like the Muslims.
Mom will send me a pass.
Yes, that too.
My mom passed away in September, which has allowed the missus to sleep a little better.
For a little while.
Until the problems with her parents started getting worse.
As the good book says: Man is born to sleepless nights as the sparks fly upward.
I really don’t understand the good book all that well.
Neither do I.
Mom is coming up here for Bill's graduation on the 17th. Maybe I can get down there for a few days in January. Tom has informed me that I'm not needed here, so ...
Yes, but...the point is, you should go! Honest!
I should. I will have a serious sit-down with the calendar tomorrow and then propose some dates to her.
I suspect that quote is intended to notify folks that as they get older, they require less sleep. Or something. But I’ve seen many articles over the years that refer to that, so I can only think it’s true.
Me? I’m ecstatic that I’ve finally gotten to where I can sleep for at least three hours at a time, and sometimes, I can actually sleep four hours before I have to get up!
CFIDS makes life a lot more difficult than it should be!
Good! I think that’s an excellent idea!
