Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

I don’t know who coined that, but Hubert Keller had it on his FB feed about two months or so ago. I like watching him, as he is truly excited about food, including the preparation, the presentation and, of course, the eating.
And he has some really fine kitchen gadgets, too, so when I watch, I have gadget envy.
I got the donuts but Albertson’s only had half-dozen boxes for some reason, so I had to deal with eight small boxes. Now to get them up to the clubhouse...
Zeke told me I could have two, and I said I would consider it payment for my trouble. I took a glazed, but don’t know what other to take. The filled ones are safe from me. :o]
So I’m ready for the meeting. I took Zeke’s notes up to him before I left, all neatly printed out, and he’s thinking seriously of calling HUD in SF and leaving the line open so they could hear the doings.
At least one of us will be recording...maybe more. One guy backed out this morning, saying he had to go pay a fine, but it really got to Zeke, because twice in the last six months, he has saved that guy’s life. Literally. The guy is a coward.
Give ‘em heck! Imagine Tom the Son looming behind you, Intimidating ...
I assume he has an assortment of cheese graters so he can make America grate again.
Just don’t eat the powdered ones, unless you are wearing very light colored clothing.
I remember taking a Southwest flight once and they had free donuts and coffee in the waiting area. All the donuts were either white or brown powered. And me in a dark suit.
The coffee was OK, though.
I dub the top bird Donald and the bottom bird Hillary.
Anyone who has ever been under a pigeon in NYC at the wrong time will know why.
Well now...
I just came across a word I don’t remember seeing before.
Psephologist
That could be because I majored in Engineering instead of PolySci..
I hope the witch hunters didn’t cause Face or Zeke too much trouble out there in Sin City.
Well..
Just like for election returns. We have to wait and see.. ;-)
I’m on tenterhooks, myself!
Zeke was drawn and quartered.
His life is literally at risk now because he was forced to tell of his undercover work trying to expose the drug dealers here. Yes, in a senior complex. There are two of them, and word will spread like wildfire.
I have to go take a shower, then go to Walgreen’s for a prescription, then meet with Zeke one last time. Unngh. I am and have been so tired lately. I’m so glad it’s over with.
Oh, dear. Poor Zeke! I’ll pray for his safety!
Thank you! I will pass the word along. I have been praying for it, as well, and right now, it’s all up to the Lord.
Zeke has to submit the emails he had exchanged with the local undercover cop, by Monday at the close of the workday, and from that point, the Suits will have seven working days to render a decision.
I’m just amazed at the attitudes of the SNRHA Suits. They were out for blood and that’s the truth.
I’m off to Walgreen’s. My life is not my own.
Back. Now, off to the meeting.
Excellent picture.
Happy Veterans’ Day, my fellow veterans.
Now I have to go to work. I’ll likely see you there too.
