Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)
"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."
...
The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

Well, with Face managing things it was somewhat like shooting fish in a barrel.
Without getting water all over everything.
I mean, really, how do you shoot fish in a barrel without shooting holes in the barrel?
Four Dozen Donuts....
I’m just letting the sight of that sink in for a moment.
Umm.......Jam filled or Toroid ?
Rubber tipped arrows.
Afternoon,
The News is now on ....this should be entertaining.
Normally I am smart enough to avoid such nonsense.
Ouch!
Well, if you want to get into a growth industry I’m thinking the next four years should need lots and lots of people skilled in anger management therapy.
That is, if the liberal meltdown of the last 16 hours or so is any indication.
Hers is a laptop purchased with her official school funds. My computer is my computer (a great big desktop) except for Pat’s doing math.
It’s time for me to play games with Kathleen, and Pat wants to do math again. Oh, excuse me. He wants to program. Anyway, I’m outta here for now. Hope you folks all have a good evening.
I wanted to thank you and your family for single-handedly putting North Carolina in the Trump win column. That took a lot of time and planning, I know.
To my in-laws in Pennsylvania, thank you!
And to everyone else in the Nation, I’d like to apologize for Maryland. I’m blaming fallout from Washington.
While I haven’t poked my nose in here much in these past several months, I have been over on our FB group re-posting and essentially running a continual online media war in Trump’s behalf; weirdly against self-declared Republicans, mostly.
Today I’m pooped.
Maybe next week I’ll be spun down a bit and feel more sociable on lighter topics.
They do leave bruises on the poor fish
That.
And 60,000 convicts with voting rights restored by a Clintoonistus..
Wasn’t that Virginia with all the felons? Maryland has been Democrat like forever.
I can barely hold on to my own temper much less helping anyone else with theirs.
Although, if I could take some of my issues out on Libs trying to riot... That could work out well...
I'm trying to look at it this way; several wags suggested that conservatives should vote on the eighth, and liberals on the ninth. Apparently, the day-late-and-a-dollar-short crowd has finally shown up.
Maybe Soros' walking-around-money check came in a little late.
Ah yes. You are correct, it was Virginia..
By an odd and startling coincidence, Maryland currently has a Republican Governor, Larry Hogan.
Pinch me.
Consider yourself pinched.
Wouldn’t that be a micro-aggression?
