He was a former soldier. He certainly would know the dangers involved in simply letting it crawl up on him. After all, he was not some 3rd world stooge.

I initially thought shots sounded like AK fire. Surprised weapon an SKS. Same caliber, but still...

Didn't bark fast enough to be that, on auto. I know the sound of that...and hate it.

Shooter did shoot some strings of shots fairly rapidly though.

You people who think an AK 47 and SKS sound different must have dog hearing or something. I can’t say I have heard them fired back to back in the wild, but here is a video of kids shooting AKs and SKSs back to back and they sound identical to me.

I am guessing Perp intentionally chose 7.62x39 for its better penetration characteristics than the .223. Knowing cops wear body armor and would be hunkering behind car bodies, he would have wanted better penetration.

Good thing he wasn’t familiar with a rifle like the Garand. Shooting white cops with a .30-06 would have likely killed more of the surviving ones.
