owners will be trying to unload and will go to great extents to hide the defect.That is illegal here. Full disclosure of any hazard is required. I suspect most places have similar regulations.

There are a lot of things illegal but that doesn’t stop them .... especially if they get your money up front and it’s your job to try and get it back!
