Jude Law, Keira Knightley and Benedict Cumberbatch are among stars who have signed a letter saying Brexit would "damage" the creative industry.
Almost 300 actors, musicians, writers and artists are backing calls for the UK to stay in the EU.

When I want “expert information” on the EU, I make it a practice to contact the performing arts folks. They have a “brain trust” that’s hard to fathom!
"...actors, musicians, writers, and artists back call for the UK to remain in the EU..."
Brexit is common sense.
The alternative is nonsense.
The ancient Romans, some of the hardest, savage, and most libertine people ever known, thought that actors were the scum of the earth.
I am trying hard to understand the rationale behind this. I'm not sure how the EU in and of itself supports any of the creative arts, unless they are talking arts grants, and they could easily be duplicated by an independent Britain, and probably much easier and cheaper.
By definition creativity cannot be regulated, so I don't see how the flow of ideas between Britain and Europe would be affected by an EU withdrawal. By any objective measure Britain is a net culture and creativity exporter. The creative input we get from from Europe is not very extensive at all - it is certainly dwarfed by what we get from America.
In short, I suspect these 300 "artists" are just fabricating a threat to their industry to push their own political agenda.
Oh for the good old days when performers remained the playthings of the rich and powerful and basically knew their place.
Gee, let’s ask the Swiss if not being in the EU has hurt their economy.
Most of actors are unreliable whores interested first by themselves
makes sense, i should vote because people who ‘act’ in movie roles as intelligent fake characters know best. their skill is reading a script and doing as they are told...definitely we should listen to them on issues like political unions.
there is that tv programme that interviews actors, the actors studio...i suggest you watch some of that. now an again you get one that is intelligent...for the most part they are dumb as a box of rocks and remember this programme is showing the BEST answers.
i remember the inteview with (i think) either de nero or dustin hoffman, maybe both —they were horrible, embarassing, grim, they could barely string a sentence together that was coherent...id be surprised if they could spell their own name without a script... but hey...lets take their political views and make them our own— after all they might have acted as a president or something...also most of these people worked in coffee shops and restaurants beforehand...you may as well ask a barista what way to vote— that makes as much sense.
Liberals who care less about their country than they do for their careers and incomes. Just like big unions in the US.
The EU dumps big bucks in the arts. They do this to buy the narrative that the EU is vital to the member nations. The arts are their Ministry of Truth.
And during the Victorian age in Britain, they were considered one step above prostitutes.
Each of them gets one vote, right?
Right, listen to the minstrels.
BREXIT! To repudiate insane EU immigration policies. Stop being a vassal of Germany and insane Angela Merkel born and raised in communist East Germany.
No, I'm sure their objection is just politically motivated. Now, they're entitled to hold those opinions (much as I disagree with them) but I don't think they have a right to use their fame to emotionally influence the debate.
By and large, what I have found is that the majority of older voters (50+) are very much for leaving the EU. The majority of younger people don't really care one way or the other. The majority of children are very much for remaining (the pro EU propoganda in the schools is absolutely shameful) but fortunately none of them can vote. However, I am very conscious that if we don't vote to leave this year the demographics are not in our favor.
Each only gets one vote, but they can each influence hundreds, maybe thousands more. Which is why I’ve never been a fan of celebrity endorsements for political causes. I don’t mind people voting to remain in the EU, if they think its the right thing to do. I do have a problem with people voting to remain in the EU because some celebrity thinks its a good idea.
