The Texans have released quarterback Ryan Mallett after he missed the team’s flight to Miami last weekend, the team announced Tuesday.
Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle reported Monday that head coach Bill O’Brien wanted to release Mallett before Sunday’s game against the Dolphins but was overruled by general manager Rick Smith. Releasing Mallett before the game would have left starter Brian Hoyer as Houston’s only quarterback.

Mallett had a substance abuse problem is college...he also had an incident in pre-season camp...
I'd start thinking about replacing O'Brien.

From your lips to God’s ears. I would love to see Tebow come in and rally that squad. I’m not a Houston fan, but I am a JJ Watt fan. I think he’s a fantastic role model, and I’d love to see him become either a Raider or a Seahawk and exact retribution on the unclean everywhere.

What will it take for y’all to get it? He was a superior college qb who just can’t make it in the pro game. Not the first, and he certainly won’t be the last.
Were his play as strong as his faith, he’d be better than Brady, but it just isn’t.

I was never a fan of Mallett and was glad when the Patriots let him go.
Put him behind an “average” front line and he would literally be broken apart. The front line at Denver protected him better than any quarterback in a long time.
