A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

I’m thinking of creating a service offering to generate some retirement income.

I know there are lots of people in this country who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. I’d like to be able to help them, but I just not that wealthy (actually, that kind of wealth isn’t something I can see with a telescope, but that’s another story). But I figure there is something I can do. Consider the following ad in your newspaper or whereever else you read ads:

Have you fallen on hard times? Do you need some financial help to keep your home or put food on the table? Do you find you don’t qualify for SNAP or other government aid programs? We can help. The ArGee Naming Service can help you legally change your name to Yousef Islam, Allahu Allazaweed, or any of a hundred other Arabic names we have in our database.

Once we have changed your name you can claim harassment and get all sorts of government help without any need for further qualification.

For a modest additional fee we can provide you with Syrian documents in your new name so nobody will question your need or try to check into your background.

Rates are reasonable. Contact 212-555-1212.

Changing your name or offering the service?

If you want to offer the service, go ahead. Laws about changing names are local and I don’t need to be greedy. You can have everyone west of the Rockies.

Sometimes, after market radios have an in-line fuse on the power lead.

If it blows to save the main fuse, it can be a real PITA to find and fix.

I finally Googled him and found out there is a lawsuit, but it’s out of CA and the plaintiffs number about 50 and the defendants number close to 100. It has to do with medicare fraud, but I’m sure there is more information that I can’t access because I don’t have the $25+ that other sites want for his background.

I may search for more, but I am tired today and getting a headache from the stress and just don’t know where to look next.

This whole pre-surgery prep is wearing me down. If the consequences of not having it done weren’t so dire, I would just opt for periodic epidural injections.

1 and 2 are reversed if you’re in Germany.

This day has worn me out, so in about 15 more minutes, I will head for bed. I’m just waiting for the mattress pad to heat up and then I’m gone for the night.

I don't see how that helps:

2) Cold on the right.
1) Hot on the left.
