A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

That was thoughtful! I don’t use anything but flannel. CFIDS causes night sweats, and percale just gets cold and clammy, while flannel absorbs, wicks away and dries out.

Be sure to let us know how they like the sheets!

Looks like that 14 inning game sucked the life out of the Mets.

Now they must work on preventing the fate that befell the Cubbies since they are now half way there.

Has something to do with a broom...

Yeah. But they’ve done it before. When they bet the Sox back in ‘86 they came back from a 0-2 deficit.

I hope they do.

They say they don’t need anything. They have all they need.

It’s taken me a few months to save for this, but I am sure they will like.,

Not my favorite color, but it matches my mom’s color scheme. I like a pastel blue better than pastel green.,

Bill is going to be a hospital patient for Hallowe’en ..

You did remind him that to be authentic the gown must be open down the back with his butt hanging out, yes?

I’m sure your parents will like the sheets! You are a good daughter, and they will be pleased at the color, for sure!

And how can they not like a gift from you? *hug*

I did ... but he asked us to put in a zipper, and I believe he plans to wear shorts.

Maybe all the others will be glad you took a piece out of the one who’s annoying.

Several of the kids use flannel sheets in the winter. It’s not cold enough here for me to want them.

At least one did, as she has been bothered by this woman for a long time. The gal is short and slim, not unattractive, and seems to have lots of money.

She went after a male resident, and when he decided she was too clingy, he dumped her. In the meantime, she went around telling folks intimate details of their sex life, and several people told her to sit down and shut up.

She is a throat cancer survivor, but that doesn’t give her carte blanch to make a nuisance of herself to other residents. She needs to go back to CA with her kids, only one of which will have anything to do with her.

Her patio looks like a junk yard, and I don’t know why management allows it. The inside of her place is like a rabbit warren. She actually lives in the apartment I moved out of four years ago!

Wow, it's been that long?

I expect this will have blown over soon.

I'm going to make some tea: the Sleeps are attacking.

Where's his adventuresome spirit?

Sufficiently subdued by his speeding ticket, I hope! He's a business major, after all, not anything hippie and bohemian.

(More tears. I thought I was done with them.) The depression is back, and I’m sure it’s because of the little “discussion” at the ramada.

*Unngh*

Jerrica was in an out in one hour and 15 minutes this morning. When she comes in two weeks, I will tell her to slow down. She is cheating herself out of money.

Good idea.

I don’t think you need to feel badly about telling someone to stop patronizing you.

It wasn’t that I told her to stop patronizing me: it was the way I did it. That is so unlike me, and if it weren’t for the fact that I know it’s because of CFIDS, I would be ashamed.
