Yes, but Presidents are in fact "sold" to the electorate, so, and much of the power of the presidency is the "bully pulpit" to sell legislative ideas to people as well. So from that perspective, someone who really knows how to sell himself and his ideas has a leg up on his competition.

All truly effective presidents are in fact effective salesmen.

I totally agree with that, and one of the main themes in my book (see tagline) is that Bush (with Rove’s guidance) totally abandoned the bully pulpit.

Strength in one area does NOT preclude weakness or problems in other areas.
