Just the other day, I saw an article here saying that this is the most “spot-free” sun surface we’ve seen in over 50 years, indicating lack of this kind of activity.
I really don’t think anyone knows what they’re talking about anymore.

From what I can gather, when the sun is peaking and bottoming out in activity, the sun is rather stable and doesn’t release much solar flare. When the numbers of sunspots are increasing and decreasing, the magnetic variance of the sun is in a flux and thus is much more likely to emit solar flares. The sun is in a decreasing trend right now.
Yep. I saw it too. I had the same thought. I think the sun is dying. We likely only have a few milenia left. We should seek a new planet asap.
i saw the same article. if you read the article though you probably read where it said that solar flares can still occur and actually increase in occurrence during decreases in sun spot activity.
