I worked as an assistant manager at Pizza Hut in the late 70's, back before they had conveyor belt cookers. We cooked pizzas in a two-deck, 600 degree oven that was two large pizzas in depth. To get to the back pizza, you reached over the front pizza with a large pair of pliers ("channel locks"), and tried not to graze the top of the oven with your wrist. If you did make contact, the reflex usually dropped your forearm into the bubbling cheese of the front pizza. It was entirely possible to hit the top of the oven once more on the way out.
After that, you used the other arm for a while. When you ran out of arms, you got to choose which crispy arm went back in the oven...
Whining about this was not encouraged.
