Progressive Journalism and the History of Narratives in the News
progressingamerica

I have completed a study paper on the roots of progressive journalism.

I did not do this for any of my classes, I did this on my own because I wanted to and because I truely think it needed to be studied in a more formal fashion. I have been looking around at a handful of peer-reviewed journals that deal with history, but I do not trust them. Plus, there is the issue of copyright and I do not want what I wrote to fall into the trap of being locked away on some journal's pages on the month of June of whatever year, never to be seen by the world again for 100+ years until the copyright expires.

I want this to be readable by everyone, easy to share and freely available for everyone. Most importantly, I think this will be useful by all of my readers and hopefully more who see it. I hope someone does more research than I have done into the history of progressive journalism and digs up even more, I assure you there is more, and if what I have written helps establish a solid basis for such research, I will be very thankful.

This problem of progressive journalism is a problem we must deal with, and knowing where it comes from is an important part of solving the problem. I would even go so far as to say that it cannot be completely dealt with unless its history is known and effectively used. A never ending back and forth is just that - neverending. What good does that do anybody? There needs to be finality and their own history provides the substance for such finality.

The paper discusses several individuals, such as Will Irwin, George Creel, Walter Lippmann, and Upton Sinclair. I am taking time to re-read this a few more times before I finally release it, but I think I have completed it as it should be.

If you have thought to yourself that progressive journalism is as big of a problem as I have come to believe it is, I am confident you will want to read this.

I have titled it: "Government by Journalism - The Road to America".

I’m looking forward to reading your work as well as the references you provided.

Thanks, in advance.

I also find this to be a very important topic that must be understood in order to, at the very least, stay in the game.

From my perspective it seems that conservatives are really good at analyzing and deconstructing what has or is happening. We can destroy virtually every position put forth yet the left is still able to move the ball in their direction. I find this curious.

Upon further reflection, I can’t imagine the left does any analysis what so ever. They just keep pushing ahead. If they did reflect in any way they would destroy themselves.

That said, what they are doing is in fact working for them.

To suggest that the lefts modern writers have any connection or understanding of history would, in my humble opinion, make what they present/produce a conscious conspiracy.

Propaganda, is a conscious conspiracy.

The left does what they do, and says what they say because they have a fundamental desire to exploit the uncertainty that exists in virtually every aspect of life.

Their exploitation of uncertainty has led them to their embrace of uncertainty as the way things are.

They have unwittingly created a vacuum where truth once resided that must now be filled by man and its governments.

The heart of “progressivism” is having the government borrow money and give it for consumer spending (welfare).
ALL ad-based media makes it’s money from consumer spending.
We’re $17 trillion in debt.

The media will ALWAYS have a “progressive” content, “progressive” policies put money in their pocket.
Redistribution of income from ‘rich’ investors to spenders puts money in the media’s pockets that they would not otherwise have.
It’s not a matter of belief or inclination for the media, it’s a matter of profit.

Look forward to your work.

Well done! In doing your research were you able to come to any conclusion about what happened to conservative media? As you know, they actually existed once upon a time. Why were they unable to compete?

Excellent work, with which I very much agree. The problem is what do we do about it?

Answer: Citizen journalism. We have the tools, all we need is the will.

If there is an answer to be had, that might be part of it. Fact is, given the degraded condition of our culture, I'm not convinced any of us could move the needle enough to make much of a difference. I wonder if the Koch brothers for example, with their enormous resources could even turn the ship around. Or would they even want to???

I did not look very far into it.

Although, I would surmise that it is difficult to compete with an adversary who cloaks their true intentions, and also has the majority share. With that majority share they can continually maintain their cloak and make it virtually impenetrable.
