Pinot Noir has always been a hard grape to grow successfully. Most Pinot doesn’t even taste like Pinot should. That has always been the case. Hell, it is only fairly recently that growers outside a small area of France even tried. Burgundy? I’m always getting Burgundy and Bordeaux mixed up.

The Napa Valley is definitely not “moderate.” Its a hot place, and that is why the best Pinot Noir grows there.
