They don't write 'em like that anymore.
Well, many millions upon millions of people have gotten the message in the story even if you got it totally wrong.
Millions of people think “Born in the USA” is a patriotic song too. The masses get it wrong a lot.
I never really liked any of the Christmas specials as a kid (and still don’t), it was a household point of contention, my mother insisting the Christmas specials must be watched to properly enjoy Christmas and me insisting being forced to watch bad entertainment didn’t really lead to proper enjoyment of anything. That’s probably when I started looking at the movie a bit deeper... probably even too deeply. But over analyzing things can be fun. And of course in the end it’s the viewer that owns the message of a movie.
I was public school, but landed in the gifted and talented program early. So I’m not sure if I was a victim of it or not. Really I’ve just learned that if you pick a chunk of reality and stare at it long enough it starts looking very different. But oddly enough I don’t like those pictures that were popular in the 90s that looked like random color until you stared at them long enough. I prefer my staring to be metaphorical.
Nice use of the word “exegesis” BTW, that one doesn’t come up in casual conversation very often.
