Those chemicals used to keep certain products soft and pliable are also known as plastizisers and my be of different origins, but accomplish the same thing, like making a shower curtain soft and pliable instead of being hard and stiff like a board.

I am not afflicted with this problem. But then, I don’t like to microwave food in plastic, so... :)
