Fifteen people shot during party at Miami club

The party in the new club went into the wee hours Sunday morning. Strawberry daiquiris flowed. Music from DJ Bay Bay pulsed. Teens were chilling and dancing.

Then came the gunfire.

Witnesses said they heard dozens of rounds, maybe 100, rip through a storefront Miami nightclub called The Spot, wedged between a furniture store and a smoke shop.

When the bullets stopped, 15 young people were bloodied, dazed and wounded.

My first reaction was “nothing says classy quite like a storefront bar/restaurant in between a smoke shop and a furniture place”. Then I pulled the address up on Google Maps and...with all due respect to whatever good, decent people may live there...that is not a healthy-looking neighborhood. It looks like the kind of place that if you called Chris Rock up, told him you were there, and asked him what to do, his answer would be “RUN! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!”

He told The Associated Press that the first emergency crews arriving on the scene were warned to use caution "because there was still active shooting taking place in the area."

Whew! Lucky no one called the cops. There could've been real trouble.

Perhaps the most sobering part of this latest club carnage is the tender ages of some of the victims. The youngest was 11, the oldest 25. Witnesses and people who had been in the club say the party was geared toward the teen crowd.

The nightclub has had a liquor license since April, according to records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Investigators said they don’t know if alcohol was being served among the young crowd.
