If you followed the discussion these luminaries had, it quickly boiled down to how to cook the data so they would read differently.

Yes, and at the end, the learned prof promises to do just that:

Next time I collect data, too, I won't be surprised at all if the correlations between science comprehension and political ideology or identification with the Tea Party movement disappear or flip their signs.

...I don’t know a single person who identifies with the Tea Party. All my impressions come from watching cable tv — & I don’t watch Fox News very often — and reading the “paper” (New York Times daily, plus a variety of politics-focused internet sites like Huffington Post & Politico).

Quite a confession by a closeted ivory-tower leftist intellectual!

Also, did you notice that "science comprehension" scores were based on a test designed by the federal government? Makes you wonder if the "correct" answers to the questions were determined by ideological bias.

BTW, my guess is that Tea Party people as a group would also score higher on IQ tests than the general American population, but IQ tests seem to have become nearly extinct since leftist ideology has taken over American education and pop culture.

Unquestionably. Global warming, or as they're saying now, "Global Change," is the "right answer," for example.

Indeed, I would imagine the average Tea Party IQ is much higher. Thanks for the ping!

Funny, but the first person I ran into at a Tea Party rally was a PHD in physics, who owned 58 patents in heat exchange technology.

The average TEA Partier is smart. The average grassroots leftist needs help tying their shoes and using a napkin when they drool, they eat wearing a helmet.

Within our somewhat nebulous group of Tea Party members and supporters, we have a number of combat veterans/key intell people (one with 3 degrees), many writers and authors, legal professionals, businessmen/women, teachers, etc.

One former Marine spent much of his life in forest reforestation efforts in Haiti and Vietnam (with 5 years as a POW of the North Vietnam in between). One Viet vet in our group is a Chemist/chemical engineer. One is an internationally known Catholic scholar on ethics; another a national known expert on war and national security law, as well as on Thomas Jefferson.

Among us we have at least 30-40 books on Vietnam (factual and fiction), including several national best sellers. Don’t know how many congressional testimonies or studies we have between us, but I’ve got 6 myself. I know that others have an impressive record in this area.

My background includes an AAC in Police Science; BA in Anthropology/Archaeology and a miner (sic) in Geology), plus graduate studies, archaeological/geological field and lab studies. Also an amateur astronomy, paleontologist and, with my granddaughter, the builders of a Butterfly garden.

My granddaughter, a Tea Party supporter since she was 5 (now 8), knows the names and details of at least 30 types of dinosaurs; all about the Carcharadon Megalodon shark/teeth as well as several dozen others; has found fossil sharks teeth and shells; knows about lizards and salamanders; feeds racoons in our backyard; and can identify many types of butterflies/moths.

The liberal elite think that their degrees in Political Science, Law, or Gender Studies makes them the “intellectual” leaders of America. What they don’t know is how to fix a sink, tune a car, paint a house, tend a combat wound, lead men and women in a time of emergency, build a hospital or medical clinic in a wartime environment, or appreciate our country for the opportunites it has given us.

To them, they are the only ones who count. The rest of us are “peasants” and “peons” (aka “pee-ons”), and ignorant ones at that, not worthy of their respect

Scratch a Tea Party person and you have scratched the “heart of America” from truck driver to teacher, to writer and scientist, from business person to a person of faith.

This is what the left elite liberals fear, “real Americans” who can tear down their Ivory Towers with ideas.

Let them tremble in fear because we are now unleashed and they will come tumbling down like the walls of Jericho under Joshua’s shofar horns.

The Tea Party “is” America and America is rising up to reclaim our country’s soul and heart!

I’m a little embarrassed, but mainly I’m just glad that I no longer hold this particular mistaken view.
Proving what I've been screaming about for years, progressive types are the most blatant bigots of all. To Prof Kahan's credit, a rare instance of a lib showing some intellectual honesty for a change and admitting his persctions were wrong.
