After a 2-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with a severely bloated stomach, doctors in China were stunned to discover that he was carrying an underdeveloped fetus inside his belly. Xiao Feng underwent an operation to "give birth" to his own parasitic twin.

According to doctors, the unborn fetus measured 20cm in width and had also formed a spine, limbs, fingers and toes. The fetus took up roughly two thirds of Xiao's stomach which made it difficult for the 2-year-old to breath.

Experts believe that Xiao's parasitic twin brother would have killed him if left untreated.

Two years old, or two months old? The baby seems pretty small for two years old.

It happens. Sometimes, the parasitic twin never develops very much at all, and people carry it around their whole lives without ever knowing it is there... until some Doc spots it on an X-ray or CT scan.

Hope the kid doesn't grow up to be a detective novel writer. Read it turns out bad if you have this kind of twin.

This tumor has a name: teratoma, and it happens all over the world, not just in China.

The ability of the human embryo to become twins occasionally divides unevenly, resulting in a second ‘twin’ that is a clump of many different kinds of cells.

This phenomenon is also why the use of embryonic stem cells has proved so spectacularly unsuccessful. The cells that the researchers are trying to control are not controllable by human effort. They carry the genetic message for a human life that could last a 100 years.
