Philadelphias two daily newspapers have long been accused of liberal bias, but critics say a group of potential buyers led by former Gov. Ed Rendell would turn the papers into mere mouthpieces of the Democratic Party in a 2012 swing state.
Mr. Rendell, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is teaming with George Norcross, the Democratic Party boss of southern New Jersey, and others in an effort to purchase the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Daily News and the companys website, philly.com.

What's he mean "would"?
People read in Philadelphia? Who knew?
Unless they have a gub'mint bailout/investment in mind ala GM. Something along the lines of "the government must protect the integrity of the news/journalism, blah blah blah".
and if I knew that you could make that much money heading up the DNC, I might have sold my soul to the devil years ago...
It’s only a matter of time.
I don't think the dead read either newspaper
.
Let them have them. If nothing else it flushes their money down the toilet.
The two papers and the web content sold less than 10 years ago for $550 million. They’re now trying to get $100 million.
I live in the area and know someone involved with the PMN so I’ve been following this story. Analysts have said any potential buyers should be prepared to lose millions until they can strike a profitable formula for running the papers.
Let Democrats waste valuable capital on what are left-wing rags anyway.
Nobody with a brain reads their crap anymore anyway; they’re nothing more than closed loop, self-reinforcing propaganda machines. A censored press isn’t a free press.
“Unless they have a gub’mint bailout/investment in mind ala GM. Something along the lines of “the government must protect the integrity of the news/journalism, blah blah blah”.”
If that wasn’t going to happen, they wouldn’t buy the paper. Rats use OPM(othe peoples money) to invest. Rendell knows something.
I'd wager on it.
I grew up with those newspapers - delivered both as a paper boy. I literally watched and read as the papers became useless, devoid of real content. The Daily News was always garbage, mostly for sports but I could tell by the weight of the papers that volume of content not just value was dropping.
LAST EDITION PHILADELPHIA BULLETIN
You do raise a good point. The first time this concept was broached in the media Rendell was quoted as saying major metropolitan newspapers should be viewed as “civic institutions” like “public education and the arts”.
Enquirer already is a mouthpiece for the leftists.
The Bulletin was a a real newspaper but is out of business.
We should make a music video - "DNC- Down wit OPM".
I probably have that somewhere - I had a Bulletin route first and my Dad worked for the Philly Journal
Way back in the day I had longest Bulletin route in the city. It was my first job and I worked my tail off seven days a week come rain or snow or shine. Those were the days my friend.
