MADISON (CT)
Madison Resident Finding Stone Formations He Believes Native Americans Built Long Ago To Mark Winter Solstice Sunrise
As the summer solstice approaches each June, a chunk of white rock in a manmade chamber on the edge of a reservoir here is illuminated by sunlight in the shape of a dagger.
In another part of town, a 7-acre parcel is filled with stone walls that align during the solstices with rocks in the shape of snakes, white quartz boulders, prayer seats and assorted cairns.
These stone displays are among the thousands discovered by Madison resident and retired engineer Tom Paul along what he calls the "Hammonasset Line." Paul believes the solar alignment runs from a Native American council rock on Long Island, across the Sound, through Madison and Killingworth, northwest through Waterbury and the Berkshires into the Catskills. He said he thinks many of the stone formations date back thousands of years and were constructed by Native Americans to mark the sunrise of winter solstice when the Earth is farthest from the sun and the sunset of summer solstice, when the Earth is closest to the sun.
"I believe this is Stonehenge-type stuff," Paul said. "I believe this line is ancient, thousands of years old. But why was the line built? Who built it? How many different groups of Native Americans observed the line? It's an enigma."
Paul spoke recently as he walked through his backyard and on water company land that surrounds his property. He pointed out the various stone structures, from cairns to rocks with steps carved into them, that line up along the solstice lines to the 720-foot Bluff Head in Madison.
"They are all along this line, and it's like looking through a gunsight at times," Paul said.

If by “Native Americans”, he means Phoenicians, he’s probably right!
Hmmm.
Dead wrong. It has to do with the Earth's axis, not distance from Sol.
I dunno....
There are literally thousands of stone walls all over Connecticut, aligned in all sorts of directions. Most were built by early settlers in Connecticut to contain cattle. Many of these have been partially disassembled.
It is entirely possible for one of these to be aligned with specific solar positions, but just by chance. Some of these rocks could have had carvings on them.
Since you got it, I now demand that you explain the
I have tried and failed!

Hey, what do you expect from a writer????
Connecticut’s Pre-European Residents aligned their stone structures to show later settlers the way to their casinos. This has worked out well for them, as instead of smallpox-infested and shoddy trade goods, the settlers now bring cash.
I like paleo-Americans...
Here are some of'em:
"Of additional significance is the shape of the skulls, which are described as long and narrow, very unlike those of modern Native Americans."

you guys are funny becuase that is why it is cold in winter cuz we are farther away and warmer in summer when we are closer and global warming is because we are adding so many tons of carbon dioxide to the air it is making it heavier and increasing our gravitational pull bringing us closer to the sun.
(Okay - now I’ll click on the link to look at the pretty pictures).
Not having read the whole article yet, I don’t know what he means by “stone walls”. Anyone who grew up in any wooded area formerly settle by Colonial and Early American settlers has seen those walls. (I wonder how many were destroyed in the exurban spread of the last thirty years?)
This guy *must* have run into the American/Amerindian identification choice before. He may be referring to some completely different walls, or even walls that were “adopted” for use by early European settlers.
Surely such presumably ancient structures would show up of specialized aerial photographs. There are a hundred speculative purposes for such walls. First I’d like to know if these “walls” actually exist.
