Your point that Nixon was indeed limited by his political aspirations as a politician is understood. It certainly has afflicted many in the ranks of any party from being principled in their proposals.

I do believe that those who want to look at the truely brave and tragic history of the Hiss trials read “Witness” by Whitaker Chambers.

Here was a man that was a communist operative who began to see the evil he had aligned himself with and upon renouncing it then was positioned by history in a manner that made him feel obligated to fight against the communist network. That fight ended in the exposure of Hiss, a well connected and respected Assistant Secretary of State. Hiss had accompanied Roosevelt to Yalta and helped shape the division of Europe for the cold war — a communist agent.

Chamber’s autobiography is one of the greatest biographies of the century without a doubt. It will show you what we fought then we are still fighting today.

What is forgotten is that had Richard Nixon been rightly elevated to the Presidency in 1960 (after having the election stolen by ‘Rat vote fraud in Illinois and Texas), the entire Cuban Missile Crisis may very well have never taken place.

As it was, the Soviets considered JFK to be a relatively young and inexperienced leader, Khrushchev was looking to throw his weight around, especially after the embarrassment of the 1960 shoot down of Francis Gary Powers U-2 over the Soviet Union, and while that might only be a passing consideration in Nikita’s mind, his gambit in placing nuclear missiles in Cuba, had it been undetected until the missiles were fully operational as a fait accompli’, it would have radically changed the balance of power overnight in favor of Moscow.

The truth of the matter is, we got lucky in 1962, and while we would very likely have won a nuclear contest with the Soviets, the cost would have been enormous to say the least.

If it had been President Richard M. Nixon in the White House in 1960, Khrushchev would have thought twice because he was faced down by Nixon in the famous ‘56 ‘Kitchen Debate’ in Moscow, and Khrushchev knew that Nixon was nobody to eff with.

Nixon had his flaws to be sure, he was not a conservative in the mold of Goldwater or Reagan, but he was an avowed anti-Communist, and his role in our eventual victory in the Cold War was not insignificant.

” Hiss denied knowing Chambers, which was a lie. “

And Obama denied being friends with Ayers and Dohrn.

Nixon made bad policy on the domestic front, but his patriotism ran deep, and he was a warrior.

You are so correct. The information is available if you look for it. I blame the media for without their complicity we all would know what Obummer is about.

I read these goals years ago. If you realize how many of them have been achieved you must also realize they are not going to give up without fight. They are too close to the goal.

“and his House Un-American Activities Committee”

House Committee on Un-American Activities.

The Communists branded it “House Un-American Activities” to criticize the investigations (which began in the 1930s) as “Un-American”.

You just beat me to that comment. Calling it HUAC shows effective Leftist's propaganda can be.

The real hero of the Hiss case was Whitaker Chambers. Every American, especially Conservatives, should read Witness, his autobiography, if you have not already.

Thanks Michael Zak. Nixon was one of the brainier presidents, so it beats me why he kept that stupid assed taping system.

I just now came upon our comment regarding Nixon vs. Hiss exposing what the left guarded so fiercely, their ploy any concept of embedded traitors in U.S. gov’t was suspicious paranoia. This particular incident is also fiercely guard ~~ always tactics. Great comment. Should be announced always this critical back-story and why Nixon is irrationally targeted. Covers the Hiss trail.
