Last night I figured out how much money last year I SAVED by being a Freeper and what I got out of Freerepublic! AMAZING....Here is the breakdown:
Money I saved... 1. Not buying the local newspaper--$125.
2. No subscriptions to "News" magazines--$110.
3. Taking my homemade lunches, thanks to Granny's Frugal Cooking Thread--$260.
4. Mercury Light bulb Professional Cleaning ( cause Freeprs warned me!)I didn't need cause I didn't buy those dumb bulbs---$260.
5. Investment Newsletter I didn't have to order cause I get so much info here--$189.
6. Making my own Greeting cards using pics and cartoons on Freep ("Obvious Man" cartoon and "oh no, not this s...again!" pic) I saved $45.
7. Computer advice found here worth at least $165.
8. Dog care advice worth $60.
9. Money saved by not needing to take college classes on economics, history, politcs, geography and religion because of all the reference materials on Freep...$3,040.
10. All the crap I didn't buy because I was warned here..(no snuggies!)I saved easily--$465.
11. I saved a lot on movies and going out for entertainment with Live Action Freeps outdoors and all the Live Threads here..."24"; Football threads and of course the Obozo-Totus Comedy Shows--$1,009!
That's the monetary savings!
But more than that I got:
* Encouragement, inspiration and motivation during dark political times. * Spiritual Uplifting * A sense of renewed patriotism and true camraderie.
FREEREPUBLIC----PRICELESS !
Wow!
What a role model you are for me!
My cable goes right after the “24” season is over...ha.
Haven’t had a landline over a year now...so relaxing.
Wow...brilliant!
What an awesome post and I agree! Going to check out the cooking thread you mentioned.
You could have gotten the same thing by posting to DSLreports, Ars Technica, or any number of websites..that actually see fit to upgrade the site with features (avatars, live feed, etc).
Great.
since you got here last July...I think you may have missed the point of Gratitude in my post...and Variety in so MANY areas that FreeRepublic has....
Avatars? Uh, no thanks.
Go check out Granny’s site for frugality...a real gem from Freeper!!!
Hey Nw AZ Granny..you are famous on my thread!!
MOST FREEPERS are thrilled with FR more or less the way it is.
It’s clean and simple. We like that.
It’s also easier to maintain that way.
And there’s no arguments with mods about what avatars are acceptable.
Agreed. The interface works great without bloat and still works for the tens of thousands of FReepers still stuck on dial-up.
It's a very good system. It needs evolution, not revolution.
I know I am. It's great the way it is, leave it alone! :)
INDEED.
Thank you both for your kind replies.
I spend some time on ATS. And MOST of their avatars look evil—like they were designed in hell.
And, there’s lots of hassles with folks persitently trying to sneak avatars by that are not at all fitting for a family site.
NO THANKS!
Besides, I REALLY LIKE the clean, unclutterd, no mess, no fuss screens of FR. I don’t even have the side-bar up.
We need this on the Live Thread-State of the Union ...
caption>>>”Are you sure you don’t want to watch Potus and Totus tonight?”
These libs are TOTALLY deluuuuuuusional!
Ha...Ok I will try...am computer challenged...ha.
If you get in trouble let me know. :0)
Great post! I’ve saved money on going to movies and dinner, I’m happy to stay home and lurk on FR. Just think how one night of eating out could pay for a donation to FR. Much more bang for your buck (if you spend as much time lurking as I do!)
Keeps you out of trouble too....Ha..and my pupster loves to Freep with me!
What kind of puppy is Lola?
I’ve been looking and looking for a boxer. I had such a wonderful one - retired breeder. I really hate puppies (they pee and chew on everything) but I might be ready to get one of the buggers.
Best dogs I’ve had have been rescue dogs.
Lola is 50 lbs, 14 yrs old and a cross bet Shepherd, terrier and greyhound...she came from the “doggie Orphanage.”
I still can’t figure out how to post pics here...will have to work on that.Yeesh.
