They had a re-enactment/commemoration of the battle up in New Ulm, MN (where they have the famous “Herman the German” statue) back in September that some of my cousin’s kids were in. Looked like they had fun with it judging from the pics. Not every day you get to run around screaming and waving an axe at everyone. :-)

Cf. the German language Wikipedia site, Hermannsdenkmal. You can click on the translate button to see the rough but legible english version with extended remarks absent from the Wikipedia site, Hermannsdenkmal.

These remarks include the acknowledgement that the statue has been a focus of extreme right wing sentiment, although this is downplayed. I seem to recall that there was even talk of closing the monument at one time over this issue. The translation says, "Since the seventies, the monument usually plays only a small splinter groups of a certain right-wing propaganda role." ... whew.
