did they just say that the owners couldnt afford to race the Preakness or the Belmont?

Oh, and many thanks! I saw your reply just in time to turn on the tube, turn on the stupid digital converter box, and watched the last three horses load. The most exciting three minutes in sports, regardless of the mafia, doping, etc. Love it. I remember the first time I even ever heard of the Triple Crown, Canonero II had won the first two races (lost the third, obviously). Secretariat blew through that a year or two later I think. What a horse he was.

Someone get ‘em a stake and take the horse to Baltimore! :)

It's amazing the trainer got Calvin to ride his horse. Guess the other trainers dissed ole Calvin...na-ne=na=ne=nooner.
What an upset..sw

They just showed an aerial replay of the last quarter. Wow! rail, move outside around another rail-runner, back to the rail, gaining like winged pegasus all the way, blew through that last hole (in the real-time, the horse appeared from nowhere), and had plenty left.
Of course, a big payoff for the mob. Owner has a broken leg from a motorcycle accident, yeah right. $9500 horse and had to drive from NM for the race.

LeAnn did a great job. I enjoyed My Old Kentucky Home too. Kentucky is a beautiful state.
And WOW what a great race! So many happy people today!
To: SunkenCiv
post race interview “I’m not flying home,” lol

Just reread that and “Mine That Bird” may be 3rd highest ever or tied for second. Finding some confusing payout numbers all over the web.

Not me. This KY girl is in Kansas City. Homesick for Derby, but welcomed my first grandson into the world on Wednesday.
