Not disputing that pits can be quite dangerous, they are only slightly more likely to kill than Rotts.

http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html#Thedogsmostlikelytobite

The most common biters are the Dachshund, Chihuahua, and Jack Russel/Fist...granted their bite is unlikely to be fatal.

Some folks here including our absolutely hilarious comedic squad would favor a banning of pits. mark my word this is just how it starts.

It will result in complete dog registration, outlawing all alpha breeds and total banning in metro areas....which we already have.

Loss of freedom is always incremental and almost impossible to stop after it starts. Look at guns, property rights, freedom of association, cell phone use and smoking just for starters to see where it leads. What's next fast cars, fast motorcycles, helmets for skiing and so forth.

It's amusing to watch conservatives on a liberty site clamor for statist control so readily. Makes it easy to understand how authoritarians get power so easy from their subjects.

And once again, responsible folks..in this case pet owners are punished because irresponsible folks screwup. This is exactly how gun control rose out of the ashes of criminal minority rioting in the 60s and ends up only affecting legal responsible gun owners since the folks the legislators were reacting to don't obey the law anyhow..

Same thing with potentially dangerous dogs....soon everyone will only have Teacup Yorkies....just as an example, no offense to them.

Not particularly with the Pit Bull type (not breed). Just that the whole hype about “chaining” - as if it’s so evil - is BS. We grew up commonly having dogs tethered in the world, and never heard of any particular problems, whether chains or leads to the ground, or run lines, etc.

Correct.

Sorry, but the nature of pit-bull-type “attacks” is just that - attacks, vs. “bites”. From what I’ve understood PBTs tend to truly “attack” - they get into it and don’t let go (like most terriers), literally. Relentless. As if their entire being is solely about killing. Other dogs tend to be more “bite once and get it over with”, or at least let up even if they do continue the “fight” - more about defense than about offense.

Regardless, I am solidly against banning so-called “pit bulls”. As living beings of great variance, dogs cannot be positively identified, including by so-called “experts” who often are as ignorant as anyone else. On that principle alone I won’t go along with banning a dog.

With most dogs, I think it’s a personal rather than a moral choice.
With a bull dog or terrier of any type, though, I think it’s foolish and irresponsible.

Yes, I saw that on the news last night.
They knew the dogs were vicious, but left the baby alone with only a babygate between him and the dogs.

This may have already been mentioned, but it won’t hurt to repeat...

“Police say the child woke up before any of the adults in the house and walked outside through an open door.

His mother, Melissa Miller, woke up between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. “

MORE THAN 1 ADULT IN THE HOUSE SLEEPING UNTIL NOON. OPEN DOOR????!!!

BET YA MONEY THERE WERE DRUGS INVOLVED...

I myself, have a pit mix.
I don’t demand that everyone love him like some pit owners, but I hope people will respect my right to own him.
