I can tell you from working on a Fortune 500 website that gets far less hits than FR, that when you start getting past a million hits (FR gets 18Million plus per month according to one ranking I saw) and/or a hundred gigs of traffic, bandwidth costs go through the roof. Multiply that by redundant systems and the expenses are unbelievable.
I’ve seen others try to compare the costs to the little blogs they run, and it is a joke, they have absolutely know idea. One person I saw compared their piddly $300/month costs and couldn’t figure out why FR costs so much. What they didn’t account for is they receive, if they are lucky, 1/1000th the traffic of FR.
