We piled leaves over our septic system and well-head. It supposedly helps. My in-laws have done this for decades and never had a freezing issue with their septic/well system.

Was able to take a shower this AM with no issues. So the early evidence is that is works.

-17^oF at 5:15 AM CST. We're on a warming trend now, up to -11^o right now...
