Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Last night I dreamed I rented a really beautiful new place...and a gal was here looking at this place because she was thinking about buying it from my landlord, fixing it up, and renting it out. There was some reason I had to make sure someone took it, so I was trying to convince her it wasn’t all that bad, but I kept hearing dripping.
I woke up and there was a new leak in the bedroom. Just a little one. It’ll be gone if we just dry out a bit, I think.
But it’s gettin’ to me. ;-)
Ah geeze - Well the first part of the dream was nice :~)
Just keep your eye out for any boils, or locusts...
Okay, I fergit who watches LOST, but I have questions. I’m in Season 2 of the DVDs, towards the end.
Here’s the question. When Michael is captured, by the others and right before they show him Walt, the African-American woman asks him a series of questions about Michael. They are the same questions he was asked at the custody hearing. The question is, was it the same woman?
It’s fascinating knowing the connections I do now and going back and re-watching. Fer example, I’d forgotten that Kate had delivered Claire’s baby...
No, it’s not the same woman.

Thanks. That’s a good resource.
Not the same woman. But the exact same dialogue.
It is cool watching them the second time around... I hope the replays are going to catch up to real time before the season starts!
Yup, count two LOST fans here. We’re pretty sure we’ve forgotten a good bit of it in the intervening months.
At work friday morning is Lost discussion over donuts and/or bagels with fresh brewed coffee. Why not thursday one might inquire (or maybe not) seems there was a couple of folks that had night meetings or grad studies on Wednesday so they watched on Thursday evening, hence the friday discussion group.
One young ‘un watched all of season one and two in one weekend to catch up.
You asked “What led you to the Lord of the Rings movies?”
Media hype and peer pressure :)
It’s like “Star Wars is so over” (reaction to “Phantom Menace” and Jar-Jar-Hatred) and this was the next “cool” thing.
Once I saw the first one though I had to go back for more. Especially since there was so much it was like I was supposed to know already, like “2001 A Space Odyssey”. I think I saw it four weekends straight and then borrowed the DVD right before going to the second one.
Five years later?
Hoooom Hom.
Don’t be hasty.
***snort***
Dang...has it really been five years?
I guess we’ve discussed this...but it still surprises me.
Entmoot was January 2004.
*sigh*
You’re right. It was.
I feel old.
Yes, but I ~am~ old. And up too late.
g’nite
Dude, I didn’t start watching them last week.
But I also din’t turn into raging fanboi either.
After that last one it was like “well that was cool, now back to real life”.
THen a couple months ago I heard about “The Hobbit” but kept putting off checking it out.
Then I found Freerepublic and there’s the Hobbit Hole in the listings. Cool, good source for questions.
OK? Some of you have been nice about it anyway, even though I asked stupid questions out of ignorance—watch out, I know how and I might do it again!
I knew the books, and I thought I had my own grand images of how things should look. PJ showed my how puny my own imagination was.
To a purist, or even myself, the movies aren't perfect. But they are far better than I could ever hope for. After watching the extra materials, I could tell that everyone had a love of the books, and put every acting skill and technology breakthrough into it.
I don't think anyone came forward to say, "I could have done it better".
I have a VGA connection on my laptop but no s-video...I do have “s-video in” on my DVD recorder.
Toshiba calls it a RBG Monitor Port, but it looks just like a VGA DE-15 female plug.
You think I can get a DE 15 connector cable with an s-video connector on the other end?
I hope this makes sense...
Ah...I didn’t read carefully enough.
Although there are VGA to s-video connectors, I think the signal actually has to be converted to go from VGA to what you’d need. Probably a converter box or a TV-out card of some sort. Outside the realm of my experience, for sure.
And I’m realizing I wasn’t using the right terms earlier, anyhow. Should have said s-video to RCA. Not that it matters, considering that was a useless suggestion...
