‘Zat what Southern ladies’ hospitality advises?

If so, it's much better than the Northern equivalent.

Seemed like most potlucks back home, there would be an enormous selection of weird Jello salads. Corn and carrots and peas should not be anywhere *near* Jello in my world. I'm just sayin'.

I don't much like Jello any old way, but...eeeeeww.

Actually, what Not Valerie would tell you is that Nana taught her that when it’s potluck you take a whole meal. An entree, two sides, a drink and a dessert. That’s just the way it was ~done~.

I’m pretty sure that’s what my Mom did also.

I was gonna suggest a Three Bean Salad, with black, kidney, and white beans (cannellini). I found a great salad dressing/marinade from Wish Bone called Bountifuls, and their Santa Fe dressing mixed with the beans and some red onion is vey tasty. I think I got the recipe off the Wish Bone website. I made a Corn and Black Bean salad the other night, too, and it was good. I think I got that recipe on allrecipes.com
