My nickname refers to the tenth amendment, which has been all but destroyed by FDR/LBJ style federal expansion.
My current tagline is intended to illustrate how Global Warming is a religion, not a proven scientific fact.

Almost 15 years ago, I was asked to write on a comedy section of aol. I invented a character known as "the (More er Less) Honorable Congressman Billybob from Western Carolina" to write the column. Along with Billybob, I created Felicity Fahrquar, his "Close Personal Assistant," who was younger, prettier, and smarter than the Congressman.
Billybob lives on, on FreeRepublic. Felicity has been retired.
And that's the name of that tune.
Congressman Billybob

Well, let’s see now. DD... hmmm. Oh yeah, now I remember. An answer involves a two-fold reply.
‘Twas a dark and stormy night... long ago... I had been lurkin’ in the old Whitewater Files.
Then someone posted a thread calling all military types to sound off at muster. Wanting to join my fellow vets, I sign up. Now, what kinda name should I select?
I mentioned the Whitewater Files. Folks were bringing forth a ton of info regarding X42 and a lot involved diving deep into the dumpsters about the Arkansas trash. Soooo, DD was born.
Part II, I was a Second Class Diver in the Navy back in the days of Hardhat diving.

I’d get banned if I explained my FReep Name.
It’s highly classified.

My former SN was about a tool made famous by Gurkha troops...slightly mis-spelled...intentionally.

OK I’ll bore you to death. I used to use my first name, but this was pre registration and one of the nefarious eternally banned and legally restrained liberal nut jobs and I shared that name and it became unusable. SO I then had a brilliant idea, why not just use my surname, and it stuck.
The tagline is a quote from Puddin’ Head Wilson, one of my favorite Samuel Clemens novels.

“MoochPooch” was the name of my dog, the late great Heidi, who liked to beg at the dinner table. She would rest her muzzle in my lap.
“Compassionate Cynic”: because there’s no fool like an old fool. We lose our innocence along the way; we must. But hopefully with education & experience comes an understanding of the world & a certain forgiveness of certain shortcomings. Humor goes a long way (probably why I like reading the FREE REPUBLIC so much).

It should be obvious. I love the Original Star Trek series and the Original Enterprise. Looks kinda hokey now when put up against the later versions. Still, it's my favorite.

John Sperling Hooton enlisted in 19th Louisiana Infantry in March 1863 at age 38 (leaving a wife and six children behind), active duty until January 1865, received 60 days furlough along with several thousand other Rebels no longer fit to fight, died at an unknown location sometime before Kirby Smith surrendered. He was my great grandfather. He never owned a slave and probably didn’t even know anyone who did.
