The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Since today seems to be the day to talk about health issues... I'm not officially diabetic. I tested myself on my brand-new blood glucose meter for the first time after getting home from work today. (The diagnosis was the result of routine blood work done as part of an annual check- up I had last Thursday.)

On the brighter side, I was informed at work today that I've been promoted, will be receiving a pay raise, and will be getting a nice fat bonus in my next paycheck. So, there's that.

Sometimes I wish FR had an "edit" function, like in the post above: Replace the "not" in "not officially diabetic" with a "now", as in "now officially diabetic".

Too bad I can't blame my typos on it...

I figgered it out. I’m sorry about that. :-\

FWIW, my Dad’s mother is diabetic. She’s controlled it with diet and exercise, and although she’s having some health problems now, she’s...um...let’s see...eighty seven, I think? And her health problems are more due to age than diabetes.

Hopefully you can work with it!

Congratulations on the raise and bonus! Sounds like - mostly - things are really looking up for you two!

Sorry to hear about the diabetes Bear. I’m at risk myself. My mom’s diabetic and she’s able to control it with pills rather than insulin. Hopefully that will be the case for you.

Good news on the raise and bonus.

Yep, it runs in my family, although most of my relatives who have it didn't develop it until later in life. My mom has been dealing with it for a couple of years now, but she just turned 81.

Thanks! It does feel like we're having a run of good luck at the moment.

It runs in my family too, fortunately I’ve been able to avoid it so far.

Nana went back to the nursing home today. Wife said when she visited (before the move back) Nana was alert and talkative and not the same woman as she was on Sunday.

She’s still very confused “Did (her son) know I was in the hopsital?” He was there on Sunday.

“I won’t be able to go to church tomorrow morning.”

But she was alert enough to talk about Eliot Spitzer!

She’s back and settled at the home and people are happy to see here.

Mrs. told her she had to eat more or she’d they’d move her to the second lunch seating where they have to feed all of the patients and she couldn’t eat with her friends. That seemed to register.

I'll try to minimize my contact with you...just in case.

Yeah, it didn't help that within the last couple of years I weighed just over 300 lbs. I've managed to lower that, slowly. At my doctor's appointment last Thursday I weighed in at 271.

Though...maybe it’s all about balance. Maybe because you’re around, the rest of us end up that much luckier...

Well, I’m short(just over 5’7” with shoes on) so my normal weight is in the 150s. I’ve been both over- and underweight so I have to be careful, I don’t obsess over it though.

I've only ever been overweight. I've still got a lot left to lose, but I'll get there. ;-)

LOL!

Ungh...speaking of mistakes, I’ve been working on work stuff for the past couple hours, ‘cause I didn’t feel like I did what I should have at work today.

Got a lot done, though, so there’s that.

If I start feeling guilty for not doing enough at work I will get depressed :)

Actually everyone at work is happy with my performance but I’m in a long slow development cycle without any accountability at all so it kind of feels like I can do nothing for three weeks without being noticed.
