The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Oh yeah...now I remember.

Next time you’ll have to herd them up and clip their wings. ;-)

I’d loan you my sheepdog, but I’m not sure he’d be very effective...

Aw...that *is* an awfully long day.

I worked seven thirty to five without much of a lunch break...but again, you win. ;-)

Well, as y'all may recall, I was laid off in mid-November of 2007. I've worked the occasional contract since then, interviewed moderately, and played housewife with mixed success. (Cooking, I can do; cleaning, I always find a reason not to do; watching afternoon TV, I can manage without a problem.)

Well, a job I've been interviewing for since mid-February has finally come though. I'm signing the offer letter and taking it back to them tomorrow morning.

I start next Monday. I'm a little apprehensive ... will I remember how to do this work thing?

But ... it'll be nice to have money again!

Congratulations! Woo hoo!

I hear that folk do remember how to work, it’s like riding a bike... but I can’t confirm it.

Congratulations!

I can identify with your list...so far tonight I’ve managed chatting with Dad, grocery shopping, cooking (red beans this time), and watching the food network.

Cleaning? Not so much...

You're as addicted to the Food Network as I am.

What shows do it for you? I'm a big fan of Alton Brown and Iron Chef and some of the Saturday shows ... do you like Paula Deen?

I dunno if I’ve seen Paula Deen yet. Maybe! Some push their names more than others.

So far the ones I’ve liked best were some shows where folks made really fancy cakes, Alton Brown and...the Everyday Italian gal, I guess, though she could stand to wear more clothes. ;-)

This is also how I treat people who confuse "help desk" with "miracle desk".

I’ve been really looking at my budget as I do this, which is good for me.

You do keep it in a spreadsheet, right?

<donning a South-eastern Low Country accent and a gray-white wig>

<standing in front of massive amounts of butter>

Oh, honey, if you'da seen mah show, you'da remembered! Savannah, white hair, accent that won't quit, and, always, butter!

<reverting to my normal self> Ace of Cakes is cool, and Iron Chef rules. And, yeah, there's Good Eats.

*snort* SirKit and I have noticed that trend among the chicks on HGTV and the DIY Network, as well. We tune in for the design ideas; we're not interested in the cleavage.

Paula Deen drives me nuts with the ways she says PEE-can. It’s puh-CAHN! I do like some of her recipes, though they’re a little too rich for me, sometimes. We enjoy Alton Brown, and have gotten some good ideas from his shows!

Alton is soooo cool! He's so educational!

I find his techniques as intriguing as his recipes.
