Say... is it just me or has anybody else noticed that ammo prices seem to be coming back down?

I’ve been searching for prices on big lots of .223, and every time I look it seems like prices are coming down. This morning I found at Sportsmans Guide: 1,000 Lake City .223 55gr FMJ for about $375. Marked down from $450. ‘bout as good as I’ve seen for a while, at least for US-made stuff.

What with the Iraq war slowing down a bit, I’ve been wondering if we’re not going to see prices come back down. Looks maybe like that’s the case. Now I wonder if I shouldn’t wait a little longer...?

Also, have you guys had any experience with the Russian-or Yugoslav made brands, like Wolf and such? They’re pretty cheap, but I haven’t fired any. Don’t know if it would just be a waste or not.

That deal on Lake City has my trigger finger getting itchy. :-)

I am cheap. I fire lots of Wolf and have no issue with it. at all. Never had a bad round. I have used it in pistol calibers and and in 7.62.

Can’t wait for the weather to improve so we can go make holes in paper. It’s been too long.

We need to re-do your tarpage for covering your mower, we’ll probably come and get the horse trailer next weekend.

Need to clean it up and take it down to have the bearings and brakes checked and serviced this year.

I know it...but remember that big light she had out there? I think that might have contributed. Roosters will crow at any light. Our intention is to make the coop as black as we can on the inside. Maybe even soundproof it.

And if that doesn’t work, we’ll just have to bring him in the garage each night.

Either way, these chickens will be shut up TIGHT in their coop each night...so nothing can get in and get them. And the run will be completely enclosed on every side so nothing can dig under. It will be like an elongated cage, actually.

Yes, we’re getting a beautiful rooster! He really is stunning. I fell in love with Mr. Darcy when I went to see Becky when Hair was here. There’s a picture out there somewhere of me reaching for him.

We’ve got to get the pen built. Steve is thinking about it.

Hasn’t it been gorgeous?

Ya know...the weather here can really get you down in the winter, but when it’s pretty out, it’s seriesly pretty.

I need to take my good mower somewhere to figure out why it isn’t starting. Probably just plugs, huh?

I still haven’t gotten around to calling the John Deere place to see if they’ll service other brands.

Sounds good. One thing to consider is buying those rigid panels called ‘hog panels’, and making the coop that size. I think they’re about 4 by 12 feet. If you put it on the bottom of the coop, even cover it with dirt so they don’t have to walk on it, no dog or critter could get in.

Here’s a trap made of hog panels that shows what it looks like:

I don't know how old that LC M193 ammo might be, but I don't think the military has been loading 55gr ammo for some time now. All the 5.56mm weapons use the faster rifling twist that goes with the 62gr M885.

If you have a rifle with 1-in-12 twist, the 55gr could be a good deal. I think it's some sort of closeout.

You get very poor results shooting the wrong bullet weight with the wrong rifling twist.

I think they’ll service any brand. Just take it in and ask for a spring tuneup.

That’s what Steve was talking about...making the entire run at of wired together hog panels! Like a big cage made from hog panels.

The sides and top would need to have chicken wire on them, to keep out rats and hawks and possums and such.

I’ll email that picture to Steve.

I’ve seen hog panels with smaller mesh too... 2 by 4 inch.
