A crowd of 100 stunned stargazers brought a town centre to a standstill when five mysterious UFOs were spotted hovering in the sky.
Drinkers spilled out of pubs, motorists stopped to gawp and camera phones were aimed upwards as the five orbs, in a seeming formation, hovered above Stratford-Upon-Avon for half an hour.
The unidentified flying objects lit up the otherwise clear night sky above Shakespeare's birthplace in Warwickshire on Saturday.

These are UFOs, that means unidentified. I'm not among those, who insist these are spacecraft piloted by aliens. They're unidentified.
There's been a spate of UFO sightings, we could be in the middle of a wave. My main interest is the effect UFO sightings have on public opinion and molding ideas.
What would the effect of an undeniable landing be on the public, on religion, on culture?

It could mean we wouldn’t hear so much about Lindsey Lohan, we’d have to find out if they were Muslims or not, and if they believe in same-sex marriage.

If you want to comment better do so quickly before this thread is locked as well. Seems the mods now decide what is news and what isn’t.

There are lots of unexplained natural phenomenon out there.
A sure landing by ETs would change many things but not all things. Assuming they weren’t here to harvest us we would mostly go on with our lives. After a few months the novelty would wear off and others in the universe would simply become a known fact.

I knew someone would bring this up, but there is the photo.
To: Jabba the Nutt
No UFO. Just an airplane towing a banner. It probably was meant to light up words like: “BEER IS GOOD AT ONEALS.” The message lights probably failed showing only the running lights.
Case closed.

How do I find the Admin Moderator? I noticed this article was
posted right before I posted this one. The Admin closed that thread, because it wasn't 'Breaking News'. Well, I called this breaking news, because no other category seemed to fit.
To: Jabba the Nutt
Well that thread had 21 replies and 304 views in the roughly 7 minutes before it was deemed not “breaking news” while other threads around it had less posts and are still open.
This thread has been moved to general\chat if you notice. A much wiser choice than locking, in my opinion, and much less likely to piss off the minions, possible donors.
I’m not sure how to find the mods. I think you just post something racial and they find you. Ha! (just kidding - of course) Don’t do that!

Good question. One of my all time favorite SF books on the topic is
First Contract : A Novel Of Big Business And Alien Invasion (Paperback) by by Greg Costikyan. Here is a bit more:
In First Contract, Costikyan has resurrected an idea from some long-forgotten shoebox, a novella originally titled "Sales Reps from the Stars." A savvy CEO, a power-suit-wearing, proper Indian businessman by the name of Johnson Mukerjii, gets screwed by an alien invasion. The ETs want to do business, except we're the Aztecs and they're the Spaniards, and we can kiss our gold good-bye. But Mukerjii, after losing everything--his millions, his San Jose manse, his leggy wife--figures out how to beat the aliens at their own game in a characteristically Costikyan way: by producing exports in the form of cheesy, shoddily constructed spaceship beverage accoutrements.
Fun topic, thanks for the post.

Surely the senate would pass an immediate bill to protect the aliens from us terrestrials so they could sue us in our courts in case we reported them to proper authorities.

You need only address your reply to Admin Moderator.
Sometimes these good people are too busy to respond. Sometimes they might opt to ignore a poster (which might be the best thing for the poster!)

Understandable.
It’s breaking news in a lot of other media as well.
However, this is one area where FR is not . . . on the cutting edge . . .
Due to some . . . trends, forces, perspectives very . . . impactful around the early formative years of FR, UFO topics were seen as deliberate efforts by trolls to embarrass and degrade FR in the eyes of the public etc. therefore diminishing FR’s clout in the body politic.
Bannings were . . . too often commonly related to such postings IIRC.
Thankfully, things are more rational and reality based now.
HOWEVER, the biases are still so strongly against the topic in view of the above, that the mods virtually ALWAYS relegate such postings and threads to THE CHAT ROOM.
It’s wiser to just post such there to begin with.
