Get him neutered.
Crate Train him - this means he stays in his crate when you are not able to watch him while he is in the house. Make him learn to sleep in his crate. Dogs adjust well to crates and they becomes their safe place. (it is like a den to them - it is not mean to crate train a dog)
Go easy on the pig ears but do buy him some raw hide bones or thick raw hide strips that will last him a while.
Buy him a KONG brand "BALL", it is red round rubber ball with a hole in each end of it. You can stuff treats or just plain dry dog food into it. It will keep him busy for hours by rolling it around and pushing it with his nose and he will learn to bring it to you when it is ready to be filled up again.
Socialize the dog with other humans and dogs, as well as cats.
Put him on Heartworm preventive as soon as you can and keep him on it all year around.

Watch out for the Kong starting to get torn up....years ago, one of my Nealoptan Mastiffs ate a Kong and had to have surgery to remove it...3 liter Coke bottles were another of his favorite chew toys, especially after the Coke started leaking out.
