The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Boy I'm sorry about the problems. Some people have a very hard time with live and let live - they deem it their mission in life to make others miserable.

Thanks. He's to call his urologist this morning - hopefully they will do something about it.

He's doing okay this morning. I gave him pain pills last night and again at 2:30 am and then before I left so he's feeling fine. Although it would be an error in judgment to try and drive the tractor right now :)

LOL! I can just see that dog with hay and straw sticking out all over, like the March Hare . . .

My Ruby did the same thing Sunday - she and Shelley ran up the hill, first to visit our next door neighbor and interfere with his woodworking project and harass his dog Travis by running up and down outside Travis's pen . . . then on up to the next house to play with Buster the 2 year old Chocolate Lab and his big sister, 9 year old Chevy. Ruby goaded both Buster and Chevy into chasing her, but they lost interest pretty quick, so she just ran laps around their back yard all by herself while Buster, Chevy, and Shelley commiserated about What is the younger generation coming to?

It may take a few years, but Shelley has perfected the art of sitting like the Sphinx when I'm sick in bed, with the most noble, long-suffering look on her face. You can almost hear her thinking, "Here is the Faithful Dog keeping vigil at her Mistress's Bedside, handsome and relaxed, yet alert to any danger . . . " I swear she admires herself in the mirror over the desk . . .

Give Blue a year or two, he'll be doing something like . . .

Those are great action shots of the dogs! Ol' Cisco looks like a hairy Grayhound in that first one, he's stretched out so much. And it looks like Gidget's biting him on the butt in the 3rd one. Goofy dogs!

:) and the look on her face is - I'm going to attack the first unsuspecting person, dog or horse that comes along. Got to be something in your water up there right now :)

And he gets going so fast that he's almost flat against the ground. Even without the other dogs out there, sometimes he'll run flat out like that around and around the house.

It's a really good thing I don't care about my lawn. ;-)

You would not believe (well actually I bet you would) the gouges and divots that the game of "Chase me! No - chase ME!" has taken out of our lawn.

Fortunately it's mostly weeds anyhow.

Well, I brushed massaged, and stretched Harley. He did not seem real eager to stretch his legs the full extent, so I didn't push that, and when I did the neck stretching exercises I didn't make him stretch the full extent of that either only about 1/2 way, but I did hear his neck pop in a few times when he reached around in both directions. I don't know if that is good or not...???

He is standing saddled now. I walked around the arena, and I don't think I'm going to lunge him. It's too muddy and it's slippery. I wouldn't get a clear picture of how well he is moving and I don't want risk a fall or a pull of something. Now I'm wondering if it will be a good idea to ride tomorrow? No matter where I would go, I'm going to hit soft, slippery muddy spots...The only thing, if conditions are like that at a ride, they don't call it off. I'll probably go for a little while anyway, just to feel him...but it will depend on the conditions how long we stay out.

I hate to ride in mud, you know that :~) Go slow and careful if you do go :~)

It's damp and rather muggy here... says 44 but it feels warm. Still, I left their blankets on, they'll just get wet and muddy in this drizzle if I take them off, and I'll have to deal with that come bed-time.

But the good news is, it feels more like spring... we're really looking forward to that. :~)

That is wierd. Did you reply to say that you weren't the seller? This person doesn't sound like they know much about horses, just like they might be getting one for the kiddies.

Well, I guess you could say it feels like spring here, but I'm not getting suckered in yet:). I'd say winter is far from over.
