The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Darn, kidney stones are painful! An old GP I knew said that if childbirth was a measure of pain, a kidney stone was the equivalent of two childbirths and a miscarriage . . . ouch!

Give Bob our best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery. I hope Blue is being a good sickbed dog and lying quietly at the foot of the bed looking noble and concerned . . . (yeah right!)

Hey Beaker! Great news on starting the new job. Not-so-great news on the commute. But at least if it's gotta be slow, it's slow on the way home. Slow on the way in would mean you had to get up much earlier. Not fun in my book. Just get some books-on-tape and start doing that. My sister does that and loves it. I think you can even subscribe to them in MP3 downloads from Amazon.

Glad to hear that the shower went off without a hitch. That's a major accomplishment when there are prickly family relations involved.

'Mornin Duchess. Sorry to hear about Bob. He's had a time here lately with being sick. I'll sure be praying for his speedy recovery! At least you figured out the mystery horse ad.

Good morning.

I'm sorry to hear about ill family members, just a tough situation for everyone.

Wellllllllllll, there was a hitch, but for this family, I guess it was minor, and they handled it like troopers, but it rattled me:) The brides father stayed for the whole party......and IMO, for no other reason then to rattle his ex family. His wife did not participate in any of the games, and would not eat, they just stood together by the door and took pictures....I could not figure out how to ask him to leave without causing a scene, both he and his wife had a look about them of "bring it on," wanting trouble, but I felt bad because I knew the motive was just to make others uncomfortable. But I'm happy to say I think I'm the only one that it bothered:)

Wow, I'm impressed with the self restraint his ex and her family had. That just shows that they are the better people. A lot of people wouldn't have been able to let that kind of hostility go. And you did the best thing too by not saying anything to them about it either. The best you can do in a situation like that is to just act like they aren't there.

I was impressed with them too:)

Well, on a brighter note, our weather is looking pretty good for the next few days. 60 tomorrow....go figure:) I believe I'm going to saddle Harley this afternoon, lunge him a bit, and let him stand tied for a while then ride tomorrow. I watched him closely walk in this morning and he looked to be striding very nice, big long steps. I'll check his shoulder today. It's been 5 days since the new shoes were put on, I think he should be adjusted by now..??? I don't plan on a hard long ride tomorrow, just an easy hour or so, heck, I probably can't last much longer then that:)

Good luck workin' Harley, I hope he feels good and you can get back on schedule. It's really warmed up here, and with it has come some drizzle. only got down to forty last night. I probably won't do much that is horsey except clean the stalls :~) When we go out there to do that, I'll take their blankets off so they can go roll and get muddy.

I don't even want to think of the mud:), Harley looks like a brown horse he is so caked up. I did notice that Rocky is shedding big time...it's just flying off him every step he takes, and I notice hair floating all over the top of his water. His shedding schedule is set to start shedding late Jan. He has always almost been done shedding when the others are barely getting started. I've always wondered why that is.

Bay's shedding, I get a handful of hair when I rub his face. No sign of shedding from the pony though... and Cyn... well, her coat sheds in about three hours one day. She doesn't really have any. :~)

Here's some cute doggie pics we took yesterday over at Rosie's!

Cisco baiting everyone to chase him :~) And it worked!

Heh... and this... I guess it's never too cold to play in the pool when you're a moron. :~)

And then go roll and dry off in the dog house, of course :~\

Thank you. Well, at least it's not life threatening - even if it feels like it. We're hoping his urologist will blast it so he doesn't have to try and pass it in one piece.
