This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hey, that's a good idea about photocopying the scramble game.
I've played the clothespin game at baby showers, but it will work here too. And now that I think about it, I think everyone got 2 pins to start with...but that part wouldn't matter either.
Becky
He needs to be able to survey his realm while he eats I guess.
I'm trying to think of some that wouldn't be torture, I'll let you know if I remember any. :~)
I'm just sitting here thinking... I didn't really have a shower at all! We did sortof have one at Entmoot in Florida, they had thought to set up some decorations and gifts as a surprise when we arrived. But it was co-ed, and there were no games, so I'm not sure it counts!
Looks nasty on radar around your place. Our weatherman says we are going to get another really cold weekend. Nothing on the weather channel though. I have tried to get to Houston the last 3 weekends so I hope not.
It was just spitting rain on our way to choir practice, with a good deal of fog, but the temp is back up into the high 30s and the radar is now clear, the rain has moved off to the south.
Everything's soaking wet though! Including the dogs!
Yessss - it's still winter in Nevada. I imagine it will still be winter here in June :)
Well that's good. I hope we don't get any more rain. It's just now starting to dry up.

Bodie and Tubby the pony had their teeth floated yesterday. Tubby, who is around age 15, was showing signs of discomfort when eating. Although Bodie did not show any signs of losing feed or problems, the trainer suggested he be checked. Biscuit and Jody will have their turn another day.
It is somewhat foggy this morning.
Good morning!
That stupid rodent said an early spring. Apparently he's not seen the weather forecast for the next week. Try to stay warm. Our barn is metal and holds no heat whatsoever.
One tip our trainer gave us for the very cold weather that I had never hear of: toss a handful of salt on top of the horses grain to encourage drinking. We reminded him that we have plug in insulated buckets but he said they still need to be encouraged to drink in this weather.
Good morning:) The snow has ended, we really didn't get that much more yesterday. But today the wind has picked up and it's COLD! :(.
I'm going to town today to keep JP there to save my house:). I find it amazing how having one little boy over to play one afternoon, can wreck a house...LOL. This afternoon I will be doing food prep for the shower tomorrow, so today is a busy day.
Have a good one everyone:)
Becky
Have a good day there Becky! Not much to report here... It's cold, but then everyone's cold.
I will go to the store today and stock up. Also put in lots of firewood. Bundle up and be careful! Tomorrow night is when the blast is getting here.
Boy that sounds like a nice barn. We're lucky enough to have the use of my friend's barn but if I ever get to build one on my own it sure won't be metal!
A friend of mine who is supposedly getting a huge divorce settlement is building a 50 stall training barn in Washington County PA. The darn thing will be heated! Not sure if there are gas wells on the property but I don't believe so. Not sure how much settlement will be left after she heats that place for a winter.
We had a few more spits of snow this morning but it was too warm for it to stick so it's just muddy. It's supposed to do more of the same off and on all weekend so I don't know if I'll end up riding or not. I've pretty much finished up all my chores that needed doing and feet that needed trimming, so maybe we'll go new truck looking. We sure need one. My Jeep is running by sheer force of will only.
I heard the early spring deal. I'm holding him to it and if this cold keeps up, I'll get a groundhog hunting license.
How is Bodie doing?
My paternal Granddad used to eat groundhog all the time. I'll never forget the first time I walked into the back room of their little farm house to find a dressed groundhog all spread out on the table to age. I was probably less than 10 years old, and being a "city kid" was both horrified and facinated by it. Of course everybody got a big laugh out of my reaction to it, but heck, I'd never seen meat outside of a grocery store package in my life. It's strange how different our lives are from our grandparent's.

Sorry for the double post. I did a little editing there and didn't know I'd posted it twice. duh!
He is not a very happy camper right now, as he is outside by himself. He keeps calling to me every time I go out to haul in wood. The ground is frozen and all those pot holes from hoof prints make the going rough. Good practice for riding across creek beds, eh?
It is snowing pretty good here. The roads were getting covered when I came back from the store. I was going to have my truck washed, but that would have been a waste of money. The garage is cleared out of construction material, so I can put the truck back in. Sure don't want to wash it and have it froze solid.
Pictures?
