The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"Mackerel-snapper" is from eating fish on Friday. "Guppy gulper" is similar but less well known.

My Ruby's grandfather shows up all over everybody's pedigree

You got me curious now .. I'm going to have to go home and look at my Lucy's pedigree. She is heavy field bred. I'm not at all familiar with Lab pedigrees so I've never even looked at it!

I've been engaged in heavy pedigree study whilst choosing Ruby . . . so if you'll tell me who's on it, I'll tell you who they are!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if 2XNAFC 2XCNAFC Ebonstar's Lean Mac is on Lucy's pedigree. He has been one hot number for about 8 years now.

G'mornin! Did y'all get any snow or anything over your way? We got a piddlin' amount, mostly sleet I think, just enough to make them delay most of the schools, but it switched over to all rain fairly early, so it's pretty much gone already. Here's a pic I took of my pansy bed about 7 this morning...

Good Morning.

The woodburner works so much better now with the new pipes and liner, plus being cleaned of soot. We are really going to get some use out of it this weekend and the early part of next week, as The Big Arctic blast is coming. Temps are expected to be only in the single digits, with very windy conditions. Time for me to "batter' down the hatches. :)

We had ice on the deck when we woke up, but the sleet had turned to rain pretty early on - I heard the sleet around midnight, but it was just rain by 2 a.m. Temps south of the Chattahoochee River were well above freezing by 7 a.m. -- I take the kids to school in Roswell, north of the river, and it was just 32 degrees there but nothing on the roads.

As I said to a friend this morning, "The grand anti-climax!"

..."The grand anti-climax!"

Yeah, ain't that always the way it is. If they ever predict it, it never happens. My husband did go ahead and stay in the Huntsville airport hotel last night, but he probably could've driven this morning. Better safe than sorry though. At least he wasn't flying through Atlanta. I heard they started cancelling flights last night, just on the threat of bad weather. He flew through Cincinatti and on to Roanoake. They probably had snow in Cincinatti, but at least those folks up there are used to dealing with it. Maybe one of these days we'll get a decent snow again.

Pretty! (as long as you're sitting in front of a roaring fire with a cat on your lap, a dog at your feet, and a nice big mug of hot chocolate in your hand!)

Is it still winter someplace? It's nice here :~)

(cold, but sunny, no white stuff)

Thanks for the pictures of yours!

Well, we've come up with 3 games to play at the shower that I think are not too bad. What do you think"

Everyone gets a clothes pin clipped on them when they get here, and all thru the shower if anyone catches someone else saying the word "wedding' or "bride" or some such word they get to take the persons pin. Whoever has the most pins wins.

I'll get a chalk board and have a word scramble with wedding type words and give the guests a certain amount of time to unscramble the words, (not sure about this one, not much interaction among the people)

And the game I described yesterday...

None of this would make you cringe would it?? This is going to be a tough group, lot's of dynamics going on. I'm not sure really how much I want them to interact:), but I don't want it to feel uncomfortable either...

Great snow pics Becky! The one of Rocky with all that snow falling is especially good. I love that zoom!

LOL...there you go, you've got the right idea:)

Unfortunately I have to start getting the house ready for a wedding shower, but at least I don't have to get out in it, and if it has to snow, I'm glad it happens on days I have to stay in anyway:)

Thanks. I don't know why Rocky insists on throwing his feed pan out in the weather....but that's where lately he seems to prefer to eat. The rest of the time he stands in his stall:)

Yes it's still winter here:(, but it's not getting me too down, yet! I still expect winter in Jan. and Feb. I don't start getting to antsy about it till March which flip flops between winter and spring from one day to the next, that's when I really get sick of winter.

I wasn't really ready for another dose of precip. tho. The last one hadn't finished melting yet. But at least this is snow and not ice and sleet.

Those games sound harmless and cute.

We didn't do any games at my bridal shower, and everybody had a good time anyway. We just visited and opened gifts. It was fun (of course, that was in 1977 and my memory may be hazy!)

Instead of a chalk board, you could photocopy some sheets and put people's names on them.

The clothespin idea is neat - never heard of that before. A similar one is to have a word or name pinned on everybody's back, and you have to ask questions answered by "yes" or "no" to guess what's pinned on your back.

At least, like you say, you don't have to go OUT in this stuff . . .

LOL...I wouldn't mind skipping the games, but I'm not sure what I would do with this group otherwise...might keep them all busy and not snipping at each other:) I'd really like the bride to have a nice time.

Families, mine included, can really be a pain sometime:)
