This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh - OK - I thought you were getting off that cheap at home!
Ours is low in summer because we ~don't~ have air conditioning.
Good morning - are you going to take pictures of the party?
You can join me on the sidelines - bring some popcorn. :)
Wow - they have a license to rob you it looks like.
What project are you working on?
That sounds great. Hope you took pictures.
Marketing . I'm putting together a packet. I know what I want but it isn't going on paper just like I want. I can't seem to be happry with just " ok ".
Interesting point and I think I know what you are saying. I was talking to my daughter last nite about "what could have been" .. but we also talked about the fact that part of being a (triple crown) champion is being able to race the races leading up to and including those triple crown races without breaking down.
Would we be producing other really fast horses that had legs that couldn't stand the stress? That's all part of it, I guess.
Or was it just a really bad misstep?
Dang it all, anyway.
They just upgraded the winter storm watch to a winter storm warning . . . it's about 38 degrees here and blowing like mad, supposed to drop to below freezing this evening.
So, I'm wimping out of riding this afternoon . . . I hope Gracie will appreciate being in her nice warm stall in her nice warm blanket instead of cantering around in this wind . . . I know I will!
We've always had gas heat . . . the great thing is that when the power goes out you can run the furnace fan and igniter on a small generator and still have central heating . . . I guess if it stays colder longer than it does down South, that might not be as economical as electric.
I think gas heat is comparable up here where you can get it... it would be nice to have heat when the power's out!
I wouldn't own a place that didn't at least have a fireplace.
The reason this place is expensive is it's an old mobile with no insulation... it'd be expensive to keep heated no matter what we heated with.
We used to have a mobile home with a fireplace.
This house is a weird old barrack, but the original part of the house was a custom job and the walls are framed up with 2x6" lumber, with insulation to match. We had the outside all caulked and painted this summer. Now, if the old windows just didn't rattle and leak . . .
Maybe that is why they don't want them AIed.
This place is like tryng to keep a cardboard box warm :~)
And I know they make freestanding fireplaces for mobiles, but I'm not sure it's a good idea, given that they canceled my renters insurance when I moved here because I lived too far from the fire station. It's only a mile. ;~)
We only used it once. It was too much of a mess to clean up.
It's bad enough already with popular stallions, but at least they can only have so many of the ladies to visit. AI will just remove that natural limitation.
Big problem with field type Labrador Retrievers is caused by too much AI of the most popular dogs. My Ruby's grandfather shows up all over everybody's pedigree -- to the point that people in the hunting magazines are advertising "No Lean Mac" in their pedigrees. Don't get me wrong, Lean Mac was a grand old boy and he sired 117 field champions and 7 National Champions. But you can have too much of a good thing.
Ah...so I see:')
Here is Ruby's Family Album:
FC/AFC The Man In Black ("Cash"), Ruby's dad, by Lean Mac out of Tayduh.
FC/AFC HRCH Gator Point Sweet Potato Pie (Tayduh), mother of Cash.
Pachanga Magnum Force, Tayduh's sire. He's the one who supposedly passes on the tendency to lick the skin off your legs and feet . . .
Abercrombie & Fitch, MH. GG grandsire on mother's side. Famous sire of guide dogs & search and rescue dogs.

FC/AFC Webshire's Honest Abe, another good field dog on the mom's side. The mother's sire is Ch. Franklin's Champagne, with solid conformation champions back 3 generations.
How about checking out the type of marketing some of your competitors do? You would see what you like and what you don't like.
