The Oneida County Right to Life Committee has canceled plans for a Saturday protest outside a Utica Roman Catholic church after the pastor apologized for allowing a reception there honoring newly elected Rep. Michael Arcuri.

Last week's event violated Syracuse Bishop James Moynihan's policy of not allowing people who publicly support abortion rights to speak at or be honored at diocesan facilities, said Dorothy Roback, chairwoman of the Oneida County Right to Life.

ports abortion rights.

Arcuri, a Democrat, beat Republican Ray Meier last month in a race for the 24th Congressional District seat of retiring Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, a Republican.

St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church hosted the event for Arcuri, a longtime parishioner there.

"My feeling is that I'm a Roman Catholic and I happen to be pro-choice," Arcuri said. "I don't believe the two positions are inconsistent."

He was an altar boy at the church and grew up there.

"It's unfortunate they (members of the Right to Life group) are trying to make an issue out of something that isn't an issue," Arcuri said.

The pastor, the Rev. John Rose, said the parish supports the Catholic Church's policy that recognizes "the sacredness and dignity of life in all stages."

"My feeling is that I'm a Roman Catholic and I happen to be pro-choice," Arcuri said. "I don't believe the two positions are inconsistent."

This statement is almost perfect in its sheer idiocy.

Let's break it down.

My feeling is that I'm a Roman Catholic

LOL! To paraphrase Ron Burgundy, I feel that I'm the King of Australia.

What Arcuri "feels" doesn't alter the cold hard fact that he is objectively, in reality, not a Roman Catholic.

and I happen to be pro-choice

ROTFLMAO!

He just happens to be "pro-choice", apparently in the same way that I just happen to have brown eyes or that my brother happens to be good at pitching a baseball.

Talk about not taking personal responsibility.

Arcuri supports murdering unborn children because he has consciously decided to defend and support that as a specific policy stance.

His personal immorality isn't a natural occurrence like the weather.

"I don't believe the two positions are inconsistent."

And the final imbecility.

One can either be too stupid to understand the rules of logic and therefore believe that Roman Catholics are allowed to kill innocent children, or one can simply lie and pretend that matters of logic are really matters of "belief."

This guy couldn't be trusted as dogcatcher, let alone Congressman.
