Nurse 'savaged' by enraged giant pig
Daily Mail ^ | 10/14/06

A nurse has spoken of her terror after she was attacked by a giant pig which charged the horse she was riding and then savaged her after she was thrown to the ground.

Suffering from broken ribs from the fall, Carolyn Robinson feared for her life as the enraged pig hurtled at her.

The ferocious beast, which she describes as "huge", mauled the 51 year old and snapped at her legs as she tried desperately to fight it off while lying prone in a quiet country lane.

Animal experts say the attack could have been deadly as pigs have been known to become violent if they feel under threat or when protecting a food source or their young.

The animal is believed to still be on the loose in Hampshire's New Forest ...

Mrs Robinson, of Totton, near Southampton, Hants, today described how she first noticed the pig while riding in the New Forest. The experienced horse rider said it initially appeared to be circling a white car parked on a verge with a woman and her dog inside.

Without warning, the pig then fixed her in its sights and suddenly charged at speed, spooking her horse.

"There was nowhere to go," Mrs Robinson said. "My horse spun around, started to panic and tried to run away. It then bucked, threw me and galloped off.

"It was then that the pig attacked me. "I got to my feet but the beast pushed me into a hedge and was trying to bite my legs.

--snip--

"It was terrifying. Ive never been attacked by anything before, let alone a pig. I didnt know how I was going to get out of the situation."

The wild pigs over here in my neck of the woods can be extremely dangerous. And huge. A few years ago they killed two big dogs up the road.

(hey Norm!!)

They feed well in that kind of environment, I sure wouldn't mess with them.

A couple of years ago I was watching a show on either Discovery or Animal Planet and they said that domesticated pigs will go feral in about 3 weeks if they are in the wild. They will grow tusks and their hair gets rougher and thicker.

Hunting boar is a dangerous sport. The boar spear, which has a crosspiece part way up the shaft, was invented because an enraged boar was notorious for charging, impaling himself on the spear, and then coming right up the shaft and killing the spear man.

We had a case of a boar killing a bear, here in North Carolina. They can range from 400 - 600 lbs. Very dangerous critters.

If your a born and bred Midwesterner and have family such as myself who have dealt with pigs.. They are great eating but will kick your a** if enraged--- such as tampering with their young, trying to break up a pig fight (so many jokes ..so little time...) or interupting a Rosie O video..

I once knew a guy who hunted boar. He told me that you had better kill it with the first shot cause by the second it will kill you.

Damned straight. Seriously heavy caliber, high stopping power, expanding bullets, and a good scope, because you want to kill that porker at considerably more than arms length away.

An RPG sounds about right. Or a AK-47 on full auto. A M-1 in a pinch, if you can hit what you are aiming at, and there is a tall tree nearby.

Wild pigs scare me.
